I read somewhere that the Atkins Bars should not be used on induction but then I was looking at them in the store a couple of days ago and there were two bars that said they were ok for induction. I am confused?

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
The people who make the bars want to make money. Therefore, they say what they want to to sell them. Dr Atkins was pretty horrified at the idea of the bars, he just agreed to it because he knew people were lazy.
If you look at the labels, you can see the numbers don't really add up. They also cause a lot of people to stall.
There are better, more natural options. You can find a lot of suggestions on the board and recipes.Caryl

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
Deb, there is controversy with the bars. There is a line of thinking that these are processed foods, and people onthe boards call em "frankenfoods"....Procede with caution. I don't eat them, but I would have no trouble reaching for one in an emergency. I have a small case of the chocholate shakes, I've had em the entire yr...but in case of an emergency I'd rather reach for that than an illegal food with too much sugar that could kick off cravings...74 8/1/06

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
I had a nightmare last night. I ate an atkins bar. I was SO upset when I awoke until I realized it was a dream. They knocked me off the wagon a few years ago, wouldn't recommend them.30/F/5'6"

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
i too have used them in the past, like was stated earlier they may be okay if you are in a pinch. you really shouldn't rely on them as a substitute for a meal or snack in your daily diet plan though. they can be big stallers and also cause cravings for other bad things.

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
Yeah it's a double edge sword sweetie.
If you really break down all the ingredients, you will soon find that they have certain things that are not aceptable for induction. Some have nuts, soybeans etc. I myself have never had much of an issue with these.
I've never used the shakes except on a couple occasions. As far as the bars go, I've used them only as an emergency. You know, on the road, several hours going by, absolutely starving.....nothing else quick to buy.
I know that people who regularly exercise use them as a protien supplement, but even that is questionable.
They refer to them here as 'Frankenfoods' an therefore, unnacceptable.
Your best bet is to find other snacks that you make yourself, that are totally acceptable!
Good Luck!

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
Thanks Scooter for the input I think I am going to follow that advice and only use them in an emergency. Bet they taste like cardboard anyway
most of those bars do. It is my understanding and correct me if I am wrong that these were not part of the "Original" Atkins plan but were added later in a revised version of the diet. I think you eluded to that earlier LooseShoes.
Thanks a bunch guys!

Re: Atkins Bars for Induction
You are correct, they are definately part of the 1972 version of Atkins, the original version . I have tried the shakes and bars because they were "low carb" when I did this a few years ago, I didn't get the results I was looking for, and gave up. Now I know why, duh!
