  • Picking Your Brains

    Here I am.

This is about the fifth start in my four months on (and off) Atkins.

But I said a year, and I meant it.

So I'm starting again (I started again last week, too, and then stopped--and then started again).

    And I'll just keep starting.

And I may even keep stopping.

But the key, I think, is to keep starting. In fact, if I start again each day (without the stopping), I could make it to my goal.

I wonder what will keep me from stopping every few weeks.

    Any ideas?
    Started again: 10 November 2007!

    Re: Picking Your Brains

The reason you might be stopping may be due to being bored with the food your eating. I know i got sick of eggs really quick. So you need to keep it fun, expirement and find new recipes and things to eat. Then you may not feel bored and restricted and may stay on atkins longer. A day turns into a week, which turns into a month, and months turn into a year. Also, make sure you mentally ready to do this because as everyone will tell you this is lifestyle change not just a diet, it took me many trys before i was mentally prepared to actually change my lifestyle and way of eating. Okay thats all, hope this helped somewhat. Good luck!

      Hmmmmmmmmm.......

      - an Atkins buddy?

      - a "three weeks" goal: commit to three solid weeks of Atkins (or 3 days over your normal quittin' time.)

      - a promised reward after 4 or 5 weeks of solid Atkinsing?

I have spent the last nine months trying to get started again. I just had to reach the point of willingness, and I don't really know what made that happen. Unless it was catching sight of myself in the mirror when I got out of the shower last week. OMG, that was really disgusting.

      I survived a two-month stall!

        Thanks to both of you.

I like the idea of making sure I have interesting food to eat. I just tried the pork rinds "cereal" the other day, and it was fantastic!

I also like the idea of a reward. That's getting me thinking...

But I've spent my life trying not to see myself and my body as disgusting, so maybe we could all work on that together; I know that when I accentuate my students' improvements and successes, rather than their failures, they rise even higher.

          Re: Picking Your Brains

There are many reasons why you might not be sticking to this woe. You need to figure out the reason why. I suggest sitting down and making a list and do some soul searching. Ask yourself some serious questions to get to the bottom of this.
I find that I self-sabotage at times. I cut off my nose to spite my face if you know what I mean.
This is the most exciting journey I have ever been on and it gets scary because I know I can do this and that I will be thinner and healthier and it is hard letting go of what is comfortable. But that is me. It could be many reasons. Just be honest with yourself and stick to the committment that you have made, I know you can do it you've done well so far!
