      Re: A little worried

I have been highly anemic for years. I had no idea how anemic until earlier this year when I went to the doctor because I was very sick (flu like) and they were about 20 minutes away from sending me to the hospital for a transfusion. The Doctor was amazed that I was even able to walk on my own. They did make me go to the hospital but held off on the transfusion. I've always supposed to take extra iron. MORE than the regular anemic person even. So much that it makes me really sick too so a lot of the time I don't take it and I end up in bad bad shape. I hate it. I actually haven't had my levels checked since starting LC. I know I don't feel as bad as I did prior to it. I take iron when I feel I must. I have horrible TOM so I up my iron by quite a bit. Even when I was pregnant they had me on big iron doses talk about sickening.

        Caryl,

I was happy to see that the news from the doctor wasn't too serious. <Breath now>. Though it probably didn't do too much for your nerves or blood pressure to have to wait it out overnight! Now we just have to get you ironed up

Best Wishes for continued good health

Frankly, I'd try it if it meant getting away from iron supplements that make you feel yicky. There's something to some of these old remedies they used decades ago...

And of course, my prayers up for you and your health... Man, why does it have to be such a struggle, eh?

                Hi Caryl,

I missed your post when I pm-ed earlier. So glad to hear it's not too serious.

Is weird though. Bodies can be so random.

                  Re: A little worried

Thanks, everybody! It's great to have your support.

2 tsp of blackstrap molasses only has 8 carbs--and believe me, I don't think it tastes great enough to want more. I'm still thinking about it. It's either that or start chewing nails! (roofing, not finger)

I'm taking 2 iron pills a day now, with vitamin C--I really hope this doesn't cause major gastric distress like it usually does. If it does, I may start chugging the blackstrap molasses! As long as I stay in my carb limit, of course.

                    Re: A little worried

If iron tablets make you sick, you can fairly easily add some iron-rich foods to your woe without interfering with ketosis.

                    Try these:

                    1. Dark meat turkey
                    2. Bok choy
                    3. Raw spinach (sautee it until JUST wilted in a teaspoon of olive oil, then sprinkle with lemon juice - yummy!)
                    4. Broccoli
                    5. and of course......LIVER! <gag>
