  • Arrrrrgh!!!!

I am about 2 weeks into my restart and I was doing sooooo good until last night. My wife and I went to a house warming party for some friends and my willpower snapped like a twig. Chips and dip are my enemy and they launched a full frontal assault with 2 beers as reinforcements. Back on track today but how bad did I really mess myself up?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Re: Arrrrrgh!!!!

Depends on how many chips and how many carbs the beer had.

There's nothing you can do to change it, so just drink a lot of water today and get right back on track. Also, try to figure out alternatives so you won't do it again. Could you bring pork rinds and eat them next time or snack before you go so your self-control is stronger.

I know it's frustrating when you slip, but don't let it make you give up. Lord knows I've messed up plenty of times. However, if you get back on track and learn from it, it's not wasted.

Good luck, and don't beat yourself up too bad!

Bad enough for you to make a pledge not to go to any parties or get-togethers for awhile. Seriously. Where chips and/or alcohol is present, you must be absent.

And yet, you can just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep on going. You probably didn't fall out of ketosis, but you probably will be retaining water for a bit, and you will probably experience some more cravings for awhile.

Regardless of whether you feel any different, physically, as a result of this, know that you have just given your body a big blow. Here it was, happily detoxed from carbs, moving along in ketosis and happy as all get-out, and you sucker-punched it!

Can't take the punch back, but you can be very nice to yourself to make up for it!

Stop beating yourself up as it will only make you feel worse. Sometimes $%&@ happens & you just need to learn from it. Plan ahead for the next event or avoid events until you feel like you can be in the situation & stay on task. For myself I know I have to stay far far away from beer, chips, dips & such. Today is a new day & a new beginning!!!

One thing I know about me....I have will power as tough as marshmallows! I'm the queen of convincing myself it's okay this one time "because". Any old excuse will do. Coming here every day has helped me keep that in check - just knowing all you guys are going through the same struggles and being reminded that we're all doing it together. You can definitely use this as a learning experience.

Sorry to hear you feel off the wagon. Hope you'll climb right back on, drink your water, exercise, and stay focused on the reasons why you're chosing to eat a low carb way of eating for life and in the process of making life style changes. We've all fallen, go up only to fall again, but the main thing is to learn why you snapped and realize that you can keep from snapping next time by planning ahead...eating a meal before hand and avoid the alcohol that your body has to spend time burning first before it burns the other carbs and fat. Keep going! You can do it!

            Best wishes!
