Re: just cant do it
Hello Fear, Congrats on the weight loss so far, and on the upcomming birthday. 21 is a big bday and if you have already decided your going to drink(which i'm sure you are) then i wouldnt convince yourself all is lost yet. You can still minimize your cheating. Just because your going to binge drink on your birthday doesnt mean you should just have a free for all until then and a whole week after. Continue on atkins until your bday, have fun, have some drinks(maybe even slightly low carb friendly, if thats possible) then get right back on the wagon. All is not lost, think about the weight youll lose until your bday, and then all the weight youll lose after. Good luck and happy early birthday!!

Re: just cant do it
Hey Brandon, the girls have all taken care of you, I just wanted to say hi. Be careful with your logic, because there will always "BE SOMETHING COMING UP".....not a good course to follow if you are trying to create a healthy lifestyle.... I say get going, start exercising, start living it, and on your birthday you may feel so good, so totally fantastic, and you might not want to break down and bring that bad stuff back into your life...something to think about!74 8/1/06

Re: just cant do it
Just because you're turning 21 doesn't mean you have to spend it getting drunk. Celebrate your life by making it a heathier one. My own birthday is also coming up next month but I plan on making it a day to celebrate accomplishments and achievements. Why waste one second of it?
Good luck on your restart and weigh your options carefully.

Re: just cant do it
something that i always think about is its just food and food will always be there. i don't need certain foods right this instant and the way i'm eating now is making me LOVE myself! i would rather not eat sweets and be comfortable with my own body than eat sweets, get depressed and absolutely hate myself. i get the alcohol thing, my boyfriend is your age and he can't wait to turn 21 and drink on his bday. i agree with what someone else said, if you're going to do it, why not stick with atkins till that day then go right back on it when its over? cheating is bad, but its a better solution to do it that way and make some progress. make it a way of life and that one day wont be that damaging. i think that once you start and see results, that you wont want to mess it up. me, personally, if i dont stick with it and i break over, its hard to stay on track. once i've been on track a few days, its like i cant mess it up and it gets so much easier. especially after i test with a ketostix and KNOW that i'm in ketosis and burning my own body fat for fuel!! thats a great feeling right there!
and it means that i'm one step closer to being comfortable in my own skin.

Re: just cant do it
I am sorry man but you have to get drunk on your 21st bday thats all there is to it. Start Atkins now then on your bday just drink up drink up then restart atkins you wont gain any weight maybe only a few pounds where as if you wait till after your bday you wont lose any weight and might put some on between now and your bday. Happy 21st good luck with that hangover

Re: just cant do it
Too funny Tyler...but I agree...that's what I did on my 21st birthday, and I still remember it! well...parts of it anyways!
Just try to drink LOTS of water to offset the alcohol (and keep you from wanting to chop your own head off the morning after!)

Re: just cant do it
Gosh, I can't even remember my 21st birthday.. I wonder what I did????
Well you've gotten a lot of good advice. Hope you have a wonderful and safe birthday! don't forget your designated driver!!! Hope you have the best birthday ever! and a healthy and happy rest of your life! Let us know how it goes! Planning is key! Read the chapter about eating in the 'real world' ... my good friend Jess gave me that advice and it's good... even the good Dr. says to pick your poison and then just get right back to it... but don't go crazy with everything, or it's too hard to pick yourself up and start over... It's just one day. If you really HAVE to drink then drink, and be merry and then get right back on track!
Good luck!

Re: just cant do it
Brandon, the deal is, for so many of us, "GETTING RIGHT BACK ON" is the biggest problem and we disappear, we throw away ketosis and we can't seem to fight against the cravings that come flying back into the picture so fast...Everyone will encourage you to eat some bread with that hangover! Absorb everything....(I know those tricks!)
The higher road is to find ways through these "great events in your life" and make it thru low carbing all the way...It's the only way of creating a healthy lifestyle...Good luck man, good luck.74 8/1/06
