Good morning STACers, I've been drawn back to my Atkins book this week. Confession time, I have trouble reading things that don't relate, so I've not really read the latter parts of the 4 PHASES....This week I am reading Maintainence, because I am close to needing to maintain what I've lost.

2 Themes greet you there, #1 controlling your behavior with food. #2 Keeping a new level of vigilance with the freedom of a higher carb lifestyle.

I thought to myself, "ok, so the control and vigilance. I've developed them over the year...

Saying I want to be here in a year was my "tag line" but in that year I developed a new me.
    I developed:
    Promise keeping
    Self Control
    Esteem
    Organization
    Visualization
    Planning
    Dreaming again

To sustain and maintain I need almost all of these behaviors. It's about so much more than weight loss, it's about developing a new way of coping, dealing, and living. Planning and organizing food so you are successful and loose the weight. Protecting that weightloss with new goals, plotting and planning. Keeping your promises to yourself increases self-confidence and allow your energy to really make a difference in your life. I have no doubt that Robert C. Atkins saw the potential of all of this stemming out of a a controlled carb lifestyle. Embrace the book, embrace the concepts and changed through and through and you'll be here in a year.
I am not going back to the HE** I was in.

      Re: Wed morning Check In

Mornin all! I feel like I spent the night at the office. Last one to leave last night, first one to arrive this morning. Trying to make up some hours I took off on Monday. So, it's going to be one long day...11 1/2 hours at the office. That does not include the hour drive in or the hour drive home.... Loooong week.

I go back to the gym tonight for session two of my new routine. I'm sure that as soon as I'm done with that 1 1/2 hour workout, I'll go home and collapse into a coma. Gotta put in another 11 1/2 hour day tomorrow. I'm not feeling it too bad right now, but I imagine by Friday I'm going to be draaaaaaging.....

But...I'm on track with the Atkins and I'm still stoked about working out and watching this blubber melt away and back into a size 18 by Chrsitmas. WOW! I just made a mini goal!!!! Size 18 by Christmas. We got a graphic for that????

        Re: Wed morning Check In

Jess, a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about what all I have learned from this diet.

It has taught me; self control, patience, to love my self, boost in self esteem, and to make new friends.

Sandy, hang in there girl, you will know when the time Is right for you. I rollercoasted for 2 years on and off, on and off, then one day it just kicked in and I haven’t fallen off since.

Byker….i feel your pain, I did long days for 2 weeks and it was hard to stay on track but I managed.

Last night I went out to eat with my brother who was visiting. I just kept eating and eating and he said “how you be so thin and eat so much?” He didn’t know I was doing Atkins, I didn’t take the time to explain it to him either, I just smiled and kept eating. I’ts so nice to be able to stuff yourself without the guilt.

Morning, Patience is the biggest lesson I have gotten from Atkins, have gotten others but patience to wait for it to work on its own time is very hard. today is day 5 of induction I was going to go to vegie rung but have not been eating enough vegies to call what I am doing rung 1 yet. I am out of here to work

            Good morning!

I have motivation this week (better than I did on Satuday....lol).

Totally learning to control food before it controls me. This week has been busy on purpose...I made it a purpose to do things, like clean the garage, Oldest's room, line the kitchen cupboards and drawers etc.. I figure if I can make a purpose in these things to keep busy, I can make a purpose to keep my focus on this way of eating. Is that too sentimental for this early in the morning?

            Have a great one!

edited to add: Last night I asked dh to remind me to take my vitamins in the morning. I'm at work and when I put my keys in my purse, I found a small container with a bunch of vitamins in my purse!! So I've had my vitamin today!

                    Re: Wed morning Check In

                    Good morning, all!

Today was my official weigh-in, and I'm proud that I lost 13 lbs in my 2 weeks of induction. We will ignore the fact that I lost it all in the first week and have been "paused" since then, because, as I keep reminding myself, this woe is the one that works for me, and I feel fabulous. I really do.

I'm aiming for CONSISTENCY. I have a completely new understanding of it this time around. I have always believed, deep down, that consistency was a rigid thing. And if you weren't rigidly consistent, then you are a quitter, so just quit.

Example: If I missed a day of exercise, I felt ashamed. Two days, and I never went back. This time, I realized that missing up to three days is fine - it actually helps my body rebuild. And I can run BETTER after a two day break, and I can lift MORE after a two day break. I don't lose any stamina or strength if I miss time. So it's all good.

Example: I always need to keep my calorie intake at or slightly below the bmi. If I went up on a given day, I felt ashamed. If it happened twice (say, 150 calories above, by accident), well, I blew it. I wouldn't quit Atkins, but I'd feel lousy. Now I realize that if I eat normally and stil get in my veggies, I am likely to go 100-200 calories above or below quite naturally, and no biggie. I rarely go above, and if I do, it's once or twice, and no biggie.

So, consistency. I'm learning that consistency is a RANGE, not a single spot. And that, my friends, is a good thing for me to know.

So now I'm going out for my first run post-surgery. It's been............THREE DAYS! lololol.

                      Good morning everyone,
Woke up feeling better this am, headache gone... viral symptoms gone... yeah! Last week I was so busy with my dad moving in and work...had to work extra for the boss as she had a death in the fam... I started getting sick and probably would have gotten sicker if not for this WOE/WOL.
Anyways, yesterday... had some important errands to do, but took it as easy as I could... extra sleep last night helped.
Gonna be another Hot day here.
Hope you all have a good one!

Good morning! I'm new to role call. I'm starting my third week today and will be heading off to a pilates class shortly

I've been re-reading certain parts of DANDR lately as well, and one part that stuck out to me was where he basically said 'if you're here then you will probably always have a problem (addiction) to carbs. You will never be able to go back to an old way of eating without getting your same (overweight) results.'

It's hard not to just look at the scale, but my GOAL this second time around is to really change my cooking and the foods in my cupboards for a lifetime. I'm so tired of the yo-yoing and my feeling of worth being tied to how much I weigh! I just want to eat to live, feel good, and get on with it!!

                        Happy Wednesday!
                        FINISH IT!

                          Re: Wed morning Check In

                          Hi guys,
I haven't checked in for a while, mainly because I became very frustrated with a month of no wt loss despite keeping my daily carbs under 30. I am very very worried that my CCLL might be 20, which is discouraging and I don't know if I can stick to this WOE if my CCLL is so low. So I am back to Induction for 2 weeks with carbs of 20 or less, and I guess I will figure it out. Kind of discouraged about this.
