Re: Friday morning roll call 8/17

Hi all! I haven't checked in for days...it's been busy with "in-laws" and whatnot.

As far as rest days go, you NEED at least 1 per week. Your body needs time to recover and repair damage. If you don't get a rest day, you'll find that consequent workouts suffer and that you won't have the energy to do what you want. Pick a rest day, and ENJOY it! Don't feel guilty, because just as your body needs exercise and movement, your body needs rest and recuperation, too.

Today is my 1-year anniversary of Atkins. I am feeling great...still in disbelief that I've been doing this a whole year, without a single cheat, and I have no intention of stopping! At this point, it's just "what I do" and not a "way to lose weight." The weight loss is just a great bonus. To date, I've lost 91 pounds, and most people think I look like I'm about 19 now...which is great, because these same people used to think I was in my 30s. I love Atkins!!!

    Have a great day, STACers!

          Good morning, All!

Blazing--I liked hearing your explanation of 'water filling up the fat cells'--it was just the thing I needed to hear after four days of no change on the scale even though I'm finally drinking my water without fail. I'm really trying not to get discouraged....I was suprised to look back at my old Atkins calendar and realize after my first two weeks off loss back then, I only lost 1 lb. per week after that. Sheesh!! I thought it was faster than that!

My kids have been sick, so no workouts for me Don't you hate it when you're rarin' to go and either you get sick or your kids do?!

I want to head over to that journal section and start my own...I just found out about that the other day. Can someone tell me where to go?

          Happy Friday!
          FINISH IT!

Re: Friday morning roll call 8/17

Happy Friday peoples. I slept in ooops .

I had a great day eating yesterday. Infact I realized that I hadn't eaten enough around 9 pm. Needless to say I was up late letting my food digest. As I hopped on the scale this morning I was somewhat disappointed that it did not drop but I expect 2-3 to fall off anyday.

I am looking forward to starting weight training again. My husband works out several times a week and I plan on adding that to my new life style. I think I will add the Ct5k when I get below 200. I still dream of running a small marathon but I have to get healthier first in my back/hips. Maybe by next summer?

My left knee has been hurting quite a bit for some reason and I'm concerned it might slow down my progress. On a happy note, after today's workout my reward is a new proper pair of running shoes. I've never owned a real pair of shoes for actually running before. I'm pretty excited about it.

Another thing is that after today's workout it will be 16 straight days that I've worked out without a full rest. I think that has to stop. I've noticed that my energy level is getting a little lower each day and my overall performance while I'm working out is suffering. I need to fit in complete rest days in here but I'm afraid I'll just stop working out (this is something that's happened many times before), but it just can't be helped. I need a rest.

              Happy Friday everyone!
You have to take days off when you are running- specifically if you are heavy your body needs more time to recuperate. Maybe you can choose one day a week that gets no excercize? Maybe you need 2 back to back for little while. Watch that knee. Good Luck

Hey Julie, you're right and I know it. I've decided that today will be my rest day. I've put it off long enough and I want to enjoy my run days and not drag myself through them. I've always wanted to be a runner and I so hope my knee doesn't get in the way. I look forward to you joining our C25K family soon!

Can someone explain the challenges to me and how you join ......... do they start at the beginning of each month???? And whats a good one for a beginner??? I am currently able to do 30 minutes on my Eliptical Machine at a resistance level 5-8 twice a day if that helps to know what kind of excercise I do. I do it in the am and in the PM everyday.

Go back to the top of the menu bar, and click on "forums" and scroll down til you get to the forum called, "Exercise Challange"...in that forum will be all types of challenges...you can join at any point. It's a place to meet people, it's a place to get motivated, and report your workouts....
check it out, and join up with one of them...I usually do a "milage challenge" where I pick my amount of mileage I plan to reach in a month, and I either bike or run to achieve and I report daily as I do it...It's very very motivating!
