  • First day of OWL......

    I could post this on the OWL forum, but this is my place, so I'm doing it here!

    Yesterday was my first day on OWL. I had zuchini, salad, cauliflower, and pumpkin. Got up to 20 carbs for the first time in ever. (I average 13)

    Two things that bothered me:

    1. I was still under 1400 calories and that is BAAAAD. What the heck can I do to boost calories? I eat cheese and fat all over the place. Salad dressing, parmesan cheese, string cheese, sour cream in my eggs......dang!

    2. When I was falling asleep I was suddenly hit with a blast of nausea - thought I was going to puke. It passed, or rather moved DOWN, so I was afraid I'd have the runs today. But I didn't.

    Today is a regular day of veggies for me, so I have time to think about how to proceed.

    Sounds like you've got your carbs and your fat right, what are you eating for meat? That seems to be where the majority of my calories come from.

      I only eat meat a couple of times a week. I hate meat.

      Maybe I should just get some ground beef and do it anyway. Choke it down - it's pretty much the only kind of meat I can contemplate eating most of the time..............

        I think you found your answer, maybe somebody else will have a sugestion for a meat substitute that will up your calories.

          What about fish? Have you tried any good Alaskan Halibut? I don't really like fish either but if it has enough mayo and parmesean on it I can choke it down.

            How about chicken? Pork? Shellfish? I love chicken thighs, and chicken breast with mayo and parm. cheese whipped up together and put on top of the chicken breast and bake it at 350 for 25mins....oh heavenly. I love Salmon....
            Keep tinkering it, and do check out the OWL forum, posting your issues over there, because there will be a wide variety of HELP..or go to journal chat's and look for Julirama...she is the queen of OWL...

              I don't eat fish, unless it's smoked. I hate fish, because it tastes like fish.

              And chicken doesn't do much for me - like I said, maybe once a month.

              I'll try, though. Not the fish - the ground beef and chicken. NOT every day - I couldn't bear it. But several times a week - maybe 3.

                How about chix salad made with mayo? Changes up the traditional chicken flavor and mayo is nice and calorie full.

                1 cooked and cubed chix breast
                I sm. celery chopped
                1 tbls chopped red onion
                1/2 tsp lemon juice
                1/2 tsp dry mustard
                1/2 tsp parsley
                salt and pepper to taste.

                And make tuna salad with solid white in water...not too fishy. Just delete the salt in above recipe and substitute tuna for chix.

                For a high fat treat I love heavy cream, cocoa and splenda. THERE'S some calories for ya!

                  Oh Lordy I can't imagine not liking meat ...........It's why Atkins works so well fo rme I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Maybe ground beef would taste better to you if you used it as taco salad???? What about making a soup with your veggies and chopping up some fine chucks of meat inthe soup? it would take on the taste of everything else and go down easier? Just a thought .........

                    Heidi, you must be PSYCHIC!

                    Last night I made taco salad and it was good. I also thought about stew or soup, though frankly, it's so hot right now I can't handle that thought too much! But definately in another month or two, that'll be the key for me, I think.
