  • Contemplating things this time around

I'm a third timer around. The first time I did really well, but I had made a decision at that time to stay in inducation for an extended period of time. I believed that I would loose more weight quicker staying in extended induction. I never moved a rung and fell off the wagon after a few months time. The second time was a half hearted attempt that went nowhere, infact I was trying to find my old journal last night to remind myself of my triggers and how badly I screwed up, but I couldn't find it. I don't think round two lasted hardly 2 weeks. So I've been thinking this time, maybe I'll plan to move up a rung with each 10 pounds I loose. Seems like it would be a reasonable strategy to get me through all the rungs before it's time to go to maintenance. What do you all think?

Geeeez, what are you, my twin lost at birth? Same story here!

I just started OWL. After only 2 weeks on induction <gasp> The other 2 times I stayed on extended induction for 6 months, then fell off the wagon. This time, I took a good, long look at what foods I am really looking forward to, realized they were berries and cottage cheese, and decided that rather than deprive myself for six months with no hope of either of those treats, I'd start moving through OWL. Perhaps this will mean that instead of saying "oh, what the ****" and having a grilled cheese sandwich, I'll say "yippee! Blueberries!"

I think moving up a rung every 10 lbs is a great idea.
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

Coming here is very eerie. I read these posts and have to double check to see if it was me who wrote those things. Both of you lived the exact same experience I did. I'm doing the stages and rungs this time. I'm done with Induction (even though I had planned to do Extended Induction) and happy about it. I want this to last a life time, not just a couple of months!

Re: Contemplating things this time around

I have been thinking about the exact same thing. Tuesday of next week will be my two week into induction. This is not my first, second, or third time around.... I want to go exactly by the book this time- but I was just telling my friend that I was getting kind of bored with the food already. I plan to look up more induction friendly recipes today. I am craving pizza and every time I am at the markey I look at those berries and think how many weeks untill I can eat them?

I like your idea of staying on until you loose 10#. I am down 7 right now- I expect I have a couple more that will fall off in a day or two. In my dream last night I had several scales and I was hoping on one after the other to see how accurate they were and to see if one read lower than the others....What is wrong with me?

There's nothing wrong with you Alaska, it's the scales that all have the problems!

I also think that's an awesome idea. 10 pound stretches give you enough time to slowly add things back in while watching for any reactions.

              Smart thinking!

I am glad to see you all making the decision to let OWL work for you the way the good Doctor intended
                Keep up the good work!

Hey Lyndsey, great idea here....and I think the thing I love is your thinking about what you did then and what you are going to do now...I think if you were to really go back and read all of Julirama's posts you would see her doing the exact thing, and I think since we want this bad enough, we are big enough people to go back and see what we were thinking and doing then, and what we are willing to do now! I wanted balance and sustainability. I wanted to be here in a year...instead of just a spurt of time! I really wanted this lifestyle!

Re: Contemplating things this time around

I think most of us STACers are seeking the answer to why we fell of the wagon the last time we were living this WOL. As most of our expriences have shown we didn't properly go up the rungs. I am concerned about doing that again, so i have prepared to follow Induction for a week (maybe two) today and then be precise about the OWL rungs counting every single carb. I have been feeling lately that I am more lax about things slipping through and that scares me. This morning I have already lost the struggle to not drink coffee. My habitual 2 cups - one at home, and one at work. Coffee and exercise are things I need to concentrate on. The rest is easy. I WILL exercise tonight even though the weather is lousy. I WILL turn on the treadmill tonight.

Tomorrow, I WILL NOT HAVE ANY COFFEE. Ugh, a post by ValidRouge on another thread had my name all over it I am sorry to admit. The truth hurts - ugh.
