  • Sunday Morning Roll Call 8/19

Sunday morning is here STACers...Today is a big day....I run the children's dept. for elem. aged kids and it's transition sunday...17 new kindergartners potentially could show up at our doors....
I am up early and since I am living a balanced life, I watched my husband and daughter head off on a 12 mi bike ride....leaving me behind. Truth be told, I was exhausted yesterday and ended up laying around all day long...
That's pretty rare unless I've over done...I over did on my bike Thurs night, and paided for it Saturday on our long ride and then I swam...My logic tells me I am close to "tooo tired to do anything" and the ride this morning would probably push me past any reserves I have...So the kids win out!

You know how we learn "this time around" a bunch of things and if we do them differently, we actually get different results....There is someone here, and I am sorry I can't remember your name right now, but you run, and you've FIGURED OUT a rest day is a GOOD THING, it restores you from all your hard work. REST IS GOOD....IT heals and restores....( I had the same fear, if I take a day off, I won't run the following day...but I missed it so much, I could not wait for the day after the rest day)

I found I wanted to HELP Atkins be successful in my body.. I tend to over do, go over board and over produce, over-cooperate all in an effort to help my body loose weight....But there are times our bodies just stop and hold ground and adjust to all we have SUDDENLY started doing to them....
One day it clicked, "Ok, I am doing everything right, everything I should" and now I just need to rest and relax and think about something else...and that's when it started to shift from a diet to a lifestyle...my body started to loose weight again, when it was ready, it had alot to adjust to...
All of a SUDDEN exercise, and constant motion and activities, due to all the energy...NEW FUEL, constantly eating things I did not usually gravitate to...
UP AT THE CRACK OF DAWN in my new routines and vigor!

When I started training for the triathalon, my cousin who has done many said, "when you need to rest your body will tell you, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND REST, REST IS GOOD"....Well the unthinkable thing happened...I had to rest, EVERY OTHER DAY...UNTHINKABLE, but as I cooperated with rest my body began to heal and restore at a new level...My break thru came this week....LESS SOME TIMES IS MORE, BUT NOT WITH FOOD HERE, SATISFIED AND STOPPING IS MORE....LISTENING TO THE CALL TO CREATE A LIFESTYLE AND BALANCE IS MORE...

You are so right Jess, I was nonstop working out and then last week I went to workout and my body just stopped. It was really weird, I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then a few people on the board said we need a rest day. Well, I took a rest day Friday and yesterday when i went to workout I had more energy then I have had yet and was able to push through a few goals I was trying to make.
Happy and blessed Sunday to all.

Good morning all. If anyone has been hesitating to go to a water park because they didn't want to be seen in a bathing suit, GO!! The summer is almost over, but there is still time. If you are thin and tan you are a tiny minority and might feel out of place! There were people of every size and color. We rented a locker for our stuff and set a code so there's no key. Next time we'll bring another set of dry clothes. We had so much fun! I spent most of the time with our 2yr old in 1-2 feet of water, but it was still fun and I did a log-type ride that drenched my dry clothes. One tip, eat before you go. Three drinks/cheeseburgers/fries were $34.00 and I only ate the meat out of the sandwich. Dh suggested season passes for next year!

Jess, I didn't thank you the other day for posting about your dh, so thank you. He might already be skinny, but you're still having a great influence on him. He's a lucky guy.

I really need to get walking, but it's supposed to rain EVERYDAY this week. A little rain is nice, appreciated even, but everyday is a bit much.

Stay dry and have a great day everyone.

I didn't know you have a 2YO, i do too, G or B? I have a Girl, she turned 2 in May, she is also usually attatched to my hip, so I don't get to do much adult stuff, especially at the water park, but she is so excited all the time about things she discovers, that it makes it all worth it.

Today is my daughters birthday! We'll be taking the whole gang to a place called Frankie's Fun Park. We've never been there before but hear it's a blast.

Well, I gotta start getting ready. I only have about two more hours before we roll out and I need to get everyone done.

          Happy Sunday to you all!

Re: Sunday Morning Roll Call 8/19

              Good morning, everyone!

Yep, rest is important. We get so full of energy on this woe that we often forget that during down time, our body is healing, strengthening, recharging, burning up the fat, and generally just re-establishing an equilibrium. Rest is as important as activity!

Think about it. When we were lying around like slugs, having consumed massive quantities of sugar and carbs, our rest was really just one of the manifestations of the chemical "high" that comes from those products. I can't speak for you, but I know that my body was struggling desperately to metabalize that stuff and get it gone. I was napping daily. I'd come home from school and just lie on the bed, even eat my dinner there, unable to do anything around the house. I got all the cleaning done on weekends.

Now, however, my body doesn't need that kind of a rest period. Nap in the afternoon? HAH! I've laid down a couple of times, but never fallen asleep, just relaxed. I sleep like a baby at night, a good 9 hours. And when I take my workout rest days........I end up stronger the following day.

In fact, it was after three days of not running that I went from having run for 90 seconds at a time to suddenly running 1/2 mile without stopping.

I've looked at my schedule for the fall. In addition to teaching, I'm taking classes on Monday and Thursday evenings. I've decided that a minimum, Mondays and Thursdays will be complete exercise rest days - no gym or running. I'm finding that running on Sunday, Wed and Fri are good. Working out at the gym 3-5 days a week is excellent.

Instead of getting anxious because I'm not going to be going 7 days a week (god forbid I miss a day! It will all come crashing down, you know!) I'm going to treat my rest days as integral parts of my workout week - I'm looking at them as muscle-and-bone-strengthening days. Because that's what they are.

Anyhoo...........I went out and bought actual meat yesterday (gag) and I am going to spend some time today preparing some main dishes that contain meat and veggies (gag). Hopefully, that will get my calorie count up, since I am struggling to just get to 1500.

We're also still working on our kitchen. Ikea is delivering EIGHTY FIVE BOXES (ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!) on Tuesday and I have NO IDEA where we are going to put them. Hopefully by this time next week, there will be new cabinets in my kitchen! woo hoo! It is looking so fabulous already........

Now, which one of you guys stole my husbands two electric drill chargers?

Re: Sunday Morning Roll Call 8/19

                Hey all!

I'm glad to see such a focus on the importance of REST DAYS. Without rest, we are victims of BURNOUT, which is NOT a good thing. When you burn out, you lose drive, determination, desire. NONE of us want to burnout on exercise!!!

I found out yesterday that watermelon is indeed a trigger food. Yesterday was incredibly scary. I am not eating watermelon ever again. No cheats, nothing off-plan, but I still ate too much and barely felt in control. So I'm dropping down to Rung 3 for a few days to avoid fruit altogether. I think at this point, any fruit at all for me would be a bad idea.

Have a great day STACers. And stay away from that watermelon.

Re: Sunday Morning Roll Call 8/19

Wasn't me, Evermind, our construction is finally done! Now we just need to landscape the front yard.

Well, I'm usually end up taking two rest days b/c I'm working out at the gym now and rely on the daycare there being open. It's closed on Sundays. I know I can work out at home, but after doing that for nearly five years (when my kids wouldn't sit in the daycare for more than 10 minutes), I really can't swallow doing yet another video by The Firm or Gunnar's Excercise Ball routine in my living room! I may try taking their bikes to somewhere that they can ride and I can do a quick jog/ walk next to them, but last time they pooped out and I had to carry their bikes back to the car.

Last night I tried bok choy for the first time (a special thank to the person on the food board who helped me figure out what that actually was that I bought at the store). I think that makes two vegetables now that I've added to my food list.

                  Have a great Sunday everyone.

Forget the drill chargers I would like to swipe someones husband that does house repairs for a couple of weeks, LOL. I can do some myself but am limited of know how and the projects don't look "finished" nice. going to get some work done today so I don't have to worry about it next week. At the office there is a nice set of stairs I am going to go up and down several times for exercise.

Good thread Jess....yes all that we all really need to do is listen to our bodies!

That being said, my body is saying feed me! After I post I will go and make a yummy breakfast for myself and my daughter.

Today might be a rest day for me from exercise. I went gung ho yesterday but feel no negative effects from it. I'm perhaps in better shape than I thought.

I think later though I will do stability ball exercises as I really enjoy them and they aren't too taxing.

I too would like to borrow someones handy husband! Wow 85 boxes from IKEA

My brother is pretty handy and he has spent some time here on and off lately but he is back home now. Have to wait for the next visit from him to get the rest of my stuff done.

Have a great Sunday everyone and remember. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

I am still recovering from the flue today. I may do some house work later but all in all another restful day is planned.
