  • Hi Everyone! First Day back...HELP!

    Hi everyone. I have posted on this board in the past and really like the support and honesty of its members. I've done Atkins a few times before, but have always slipped up after a few days/weeks/months. I have tried other diets but this is the only one that works, and so I don't know why I keep fooling myself by thinking I can stop this woe and I will not gain weight back. It's time for me to be honest with myself and also to start taking better care of myself. That's why I decided to go back to Atkins again.

    Anyway, today is my first day and I'm really trying to do everything right. Before when I did Atkins, it probably really wasn't Atkins because I ate however much I wanted as long as it was on the acceptable foods list. So I had probably way more than 3 cups of veggies, etc.

    So far I've only had one meal today, and I entered it into fitday. I was really surprised to see that it was 13 carbs! I don't know if I entered everything in right or not, but here is what I had:

    omelette w/ 3 med. sized eggs (fitday says they are 4 carbs)
    2 oz. of cheese (I customized it from the packaging and it's 1 carb)
    6 pieces of bacon (0 carbs)
    1/2 cup of mushrooms in omelette (fitday says 4 carbs)
    1/2 cup of green pepper in omelette (fitday says 5 carbs)
    1 tbs of butter to sautee the mushrooms and peppers (0 carbs)

    Is this really 13 carbs?! How am I supposed to get in 2 more cups of veggies plus eat 1 or 2 more oz. of cheese if I only have 7 carbs left?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome back! What is fitday saying your fiber is for the day? Remember you have to subtract the fiber to get your net carbs. Good luck!

      Some of the veggies need to be lettuce, basically.

      Celery and cucumber are very low in carbs too.

      edited to add: I happened to eat 1/2 c. of green pepper today, and I use fitday. After fiber, it's 3.5g carbs.

        Thank you both for your replies! I didn't think about subtracting fiber! And fitday says I have 3 grams, so that's 10 grams of carbs. That's much better, lol!. I'm going to have A bunless burger w/ mayo, one slice of onion and one slice of tomato for dinner. I know that both onion and tomato are pretty high in carbs so I will just have a small amt of those. My aunt is having me over for dinner, so I'm not going to turn down a free, low carb dinner from an awesome cook, lol.

        One more question: Are dill pickles allowed on induction? Like, is it considered a cucumber?

          No prob about the fitday, I posted an almost identical post about a week ago. I consider dill pickes cucumber portions, but keep in mind they are REALLY salty. They cause me to retain fluid, so I have them very very rarely.

            I wouldn't bother putting eggs into the equation. Atkins says while on induction you can have unlimited amounts.

              I saw that in the book...and I thought there were no carbs in the eggs. I was really surprised when fitday said there were 4 carbs! I wonder why Dr. Atkins said we could have unlimited eggs if there were carbs in them. Maybe the carbs don't effect us?

                I'm pretty sure it's the idea that eggs are a powerhouse protien source--also their ratio is perfect.

                  I eat 6-8 eggs a day, and I never deduct their carbs. I guess I would if I was EVER over 20 (before OWL), but I never have been.......
