  • Hooray for OWL!

OK, tomorrow's the big day. I'm actually going to start OWL. The first time I did Atkins I did an extended version of Induction for about 2 years (!) Actually, thinking back, I guess I did my own version OWL b/c I did add nuts and some fruits, etc., but not in the right order and not by the book, which is why I wasn't able to make the switch to this WOE for a lifetime. Plus, I didn't investigate all of the food choices we have and got bored with my hard boiled eggs and cheese...

So this time I'm going for it! I hope it doesn't slow my loss too much b/c that will be discouraging for sure. It will be the start of week 4 for me with 9 lbs. down.

Any advice as I move to rung one is welcome

    Re: Hooray for OWL!

Just wanted to say congrats on moving to OWL. Like you, in the past I have stayed in induction way too long and think that may have been part of my downfall. I plan to join you in induction as soon as I hit the 10 pound loss mark. Good luck, and keep us posted on how it goes so I know any pitfalls to look out for.

      Re: Hooray for OWL!

I started OWL a couple of days ago. Like you, I always had done a VERY extended induction followed by a long, slow fall off the wagon, resulting in, well, let's just say I now weigh more than ever.

When I started, I'd finished 2 weeks of induction where I'd lost 13 lbs in the first week and nothing in the second. Since I started 4 days ago, I've lost another 2 lbs.

      So go for it!
      Start date: 7/29/2007

      Scale: SW:235 CW:193
      GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

      Mini goals:
      215 - met 9/10/07
      205 - met 10/17/07
      195 - met 2/20/08
      180

      I survived a two-month stall!

        Thanks, Gals,

I do know I'm going to do better this time around because I'm not as petrified of not losing as fast. The first time I was so scared if I left induction I wouldn't keep losing and I just read a post that said not finding your CGLL (is that the right acronym?) may create a plateau which is what happened to me.

Glad to hear you lost 2 more Evermind! I hope it goes as well for me.

          Re: Hooray for OWL!

The first time I did Atkins, which was May of last year, I stayed on extended enduction for 2 weeks and then moved up the ladder.

I only went off Atkins because I got pregnant and ate something which caused a giant, couldn't resist bingefest. And by then I said, why bother, and decided to recommit after deliever and establishment of my milk supply.

Which I've done successfully--phooey to all the naysayers.

Anywho, I would suggest that you take things VERY slow. When I went up to rung one I mistakenly added carrots and noticed a huge craving issue shortly after. I came in here looking for answers and sweet elizellen (sp) you know who I mean--lol, set me straight and I averted a major setback.

Make sure you add foods in one at a time and give yourself enough time between new foods to monitor your reactions--oh, and take it easy on the Splenda. That might cause a stall.

I'm so happy you're making this huge step! Go for it and never look back. It's the only way to maintain this WOE for a lifetime.

              Re: Hooray for OWL!

I did the same thing the first time around and think that's why I had a hard time switching to maintenance.

This time, I'm trying to climb the rungs and see how many carbs as I can while losing or maintening. I think it'll be easier to make it a WOL that way.

                Re: Hooray for OWL!

Yes, thank you! My first day of OWL is really sucking though b/c it's 3:00 and I'm realizing I haven't even had any veggies today! That dang South Beach bar threw me all off.

Thanks for the advice, Meena. I will heed said warning! I don't think I'll try any higher carb veggies for awhile. I don't need anything sending me off to bingeland. Because the binge starts with carrots....then moves to nuts....then onto [fill in the blank]. And chances are at the end of the binge is Hershey's bar hidden somewhere in the back of the freezer (oh, yah, and I'll find it).
