  • Confession... cross-posted.

Okay, here's my food for today (supposedly day one b/c I had cake at a bday party yesterday):

diet rock star energy drink (I had to drive my ex to work at 4:30am)
cashews (I have to beat it into me that I'm BACK on induction)

    eggs
    2 pc. sausage
    water

(2 bites of my son's pancakes, and 1 bite of his chicken tenders with bbq sauce - he eats strange breakfast)

Chicken w/ bacon & cheddar cheese
    sour cream
    water

    (2 or 3 blackberries)

    colby jack cheese
    Cajun Chicken with garlic ranch
    crystal light
    some cherry coke zero

Sugar free Russel Stovers mint (I had a sugar craving)

    ________________________________________________

And, I know I should be scolded. Let 'er rip.

I need to re-read the induction portion of DANDR and stiick to it HARDCORE.

On a positive note, I went to the local fruit market and got fresh veggies and prepped them for quick cooking for the next few days... so I have no excuse to stray...

Another good thing A co-worker asked me what diet I've been losing weight on, I told her Atkins and she asked me to explain it to her, which I've done TOO many times to people who didn't even give it an honest attempt, so I told her she'd be better off buying the book and reading it for herself and she said she doesn't like to go anywhere in public and asked if I'd pick it up for her... and I did with pleasure Fellow Atkins-doers.

    Welcome back to the game!
I do recommend you re-read the book and start fresh. Most of what you ate today isn't allowed so today was just a primer day.

To break down what you ate:

The energy drink is most likely a no no as they usually are full of sugar. The cashews will be okay later in OWL but not during induction.

The eggs are good, of course. Watch the sausages, though. Most have added sugar. Same for a lot of bacon. I get a sugar and nitrate free bacon from Publix made by Premium Farms.

The pancakes were a big no-no as were the nuggets and bbq sauce (most likely had sugar).

Lunch was good assuming it was not breaded chicken.

The blackberries are an OWL food.

The cheese and chicken was okay but check the ranch dressing since most have sugar. I'm not sure about the crystal light - sugar again. The coke zeros are okay but it's better for it to be a splenda based drink like Pepsi One, Diet Rite, Diet Cheerwine.

Mint was okay if it's sugar free (and waifer thin?)

You'll need to add in your two cups of salad and 1 cup of veggies and don't forget the water.

It's a great thing getting back into Atkins. My first time around I did pretty good but I cheated quite a few times and never even made it to OWL. 2nd timers have that experience of what brought us down and what it's like to "fail" and see the weight go back on. That's been a great incentive for me to do it right this time and not look back.

I know others will have a lot of inspiration for you so keep checking the forums and good luck!

This is why Ingham County is better than Clinton. (Don't live there anymore, but I had to root for the county I grew up in). <grin>

So, listen, young lady. Here's what you need to do:

NO MORE DIET DRINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Water only for the next 7 days. NO EXCEPTIONS! I don't care WHAT time you have to drive anyone anywhere.

EAT SALAD AT LUNCH AND AT DINNER! Lots of it!!!!!!!!!

TWO SNACKS MINIMUM: 1 between breakfast and lunch, 1 between lunch and dinner. If you want, also something between dinner and bed. Snacks should be high in fat. Like cheese, or olives, or devilled eggs. (why? because it will keep you feeling full and not have cravings for two bites of anyone's pancakes.)

NO SUGAR FREE CANDY! You have a sugar craving? Make yourself your own chocolate mousse by whipping up an oz or two of heavy cream with cocoa powder and splenda. Or a cocoa-flavored flax cookie. Stay away from store-bought low-carb treats. They are BAD, BAD, BAD. <slapping your hand away>

You had the sugar craving because you were eating in an odd way. High sugar in the morning led you to a low in the afternoon which is why you needed a nibble of pancakes and tenders with sauce which brought you back up until dinner when you had the dressing, crystal light and diet soda and then the candy.

Your day was filled with ups and downs in blood sugar and not nearly enough water which probably left you feeling yucky and tired.

Here is the thing though. If you don't do a clean induction you won't ever get into ketosis and burn that fat off. You'll feel horrible and crave sugar like a monkey in a banana house for the first two weeks, but after that you'll start having more energy and feel like a new woman.

It has to be clean and you need to replace everything you drink with plain tap water. You are only allowed 3 packets of Splenda per day. All that sugar free candy, crystal light and diet soda are out. Not to mention, too much Splenda can cause a stall or a really bad craving.

I'm sure you also know that fruit and nuts are out. Those are higher up the rungs in OWL. Brush up on your DANDR. You can do it. I kept having to psyche myself out to restart. I must have had about 3 or 4 false restarts this time around until I finally told my husband--Just leave me alone--be nice to me--and when I stress out let me call you and don't put me on hold. lol. It worked and I was able to complete a clean induction and am on to a two week extended before I move on to OWL.

Good luck and remember, there is no time like the present to begin your new life!

Hey Pls, glad you dropped in, we'll take care of you over here in STAC, the girls will whip you into shape...Meena said it best, "if you dont' cut this stuff out, you won't get into Ketosis"...that's the key here, Ketosis and switching your metabolism to fat burning...3 days of that clean induction will put you there, you might have to detox on the way, but soon things should really smooth out!

I've read DANDR like 4 times... my first copy actually lost pages from using the binding so much referencing pages and such...
