  • Inches lost but scale won't budge??

Maybe someone here can shed some light as to how it's possible to lose inches without shedding a single pound.

I know muscle weighs more so that could be it but almost an entire week?? Anyone go that long just shedding inches without seeing anything on the scale? I have to say, I'm glad I bought a tape measure!! Tue. is my weigh in day and I'm moving on to owl after that. I know the weight will start climbing down eventually so I'm not in a panic--I'm just curious.

Also, I haven't been keeping up with traditional exercise. I'm doing more strenuous housework and smaller things like parking further away from shopping plazas, etc.

I have to say though, most mornings I wake up very sore. Yesterday I scrubbed both upstairs bathrooms and when I got up this morning my legs and my arms hurt.

This is probably the best explanation of the whole deal out there

How are you doing on your water intake meena-beena?? For me I'm basing my progress on how I feel & how the clothes are fitting. I'm only going to weigh in every 2 weeks & take my measurements the same day. We have a tendency to get caught up in what the scales say & they all lie...I haven't met on yet that doesn't. :/

Love that link, I wanted to add that there is a difference between being over-weight and being over-fat though the two are often used synonomously. The fact is that two people, the same eact height, could weigh the exact same even though one of them might be at 10% body fat while the other could be 40% body fat. They might both be considered over-weight for their height but only one of them is too fat.

That number on the scale is deceiving. Its better to concentrate on being fit and healthy then to worry about that number. If you focus on your eating and a regular exercise schedule you will get healthier. That in turn will most likely mean you will drop pounds but even if there are periods of time where that doesn't happen it's not nearly as important as the fact you will feel better, look better, have more stamina, more energy and will live a longer happier life.

            GREAT link, Brook!

Meena, I feel for ya. I don't know what it is about the scale. It's a poopyhead. The INCHES ARE WHAT COUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you're doing great, babe. We wouldn't lie to ya.

But I have ANOTHER question about the scale: How come, on a digital scale, I can weigh myself twice in 60 seconds, and there's a 4 lb weight change? HUH?
            Start date: 7/29/2007

            Scale: SW:235 CW:193
            GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

            Mini goals:
            215 - met 9/10/07
            205 - met 10/17/07
            195 - met 2/20/08
            180

            I survived a two-month stall!

Of course! THAT'S the answer! There is no other reasonable explanation.

Re: Inches lost but scale won't budge??

Meena, don't trip out over this...step away from the scale and get serious about listening to your body....get serious about this and you will get free! What I mean is, look at the energy levels in your life, cleaning, cleaning cleaning, fired up and focused! Those are what I would term "typical" ketosis symptoms....Feeling great and energized is a huge part of this whole deal...and you are RIGHT THERE WITH THAT...You earned that place from the food choices. As you put clothing on, really do a mental body check, do things feel looser, better??? Do you feel better about yourself, better than you've felt in a while?
Those feelings about yourself and how your clothing fit and the energy you have are all by products of the diet...The scale can't measure them, but if you make it all about the tiny little number, you will eventually walk off frustrated....
Check your foods for hidden carbs, and salts...make sure you are drinking alot of water and stay as active as your schedule will allow, and just embrace those feelings and the weight will follow....Our bodies need to be trusted, they will move at their own time line not ours.

Re: Inches lost but scale won't budge??

Of course you guys are all right. lol, sometimes we need a shot in the head to remember that we are all in this for the long haul and successes never come overnight.

My week was indeed a strange one. I had a ton of stress and not enough water. Then, add to that not seeing a change but losing inches at the same time. I thought--weird. That's never happened to me before. If I'm losing weight the scale shows it.

You are right about that healthy feeling. I have so much energy I just want to burst out of my skin sometimes. Which is part of the reason I had such a crummy week last week. It was just too hot to go out anywhere and I was stuck in my house with all this extra energy. I ended up turning on the tunes and jumping like a mad woman with my kids. That helped.

Thanks for the link Brook. I'm gonna check that out now!

New Picture.....new mindset! We loose inches because we are burning fat, and you probably grew some muscle from all the jumping and the old measuring tape is the only thing that shows the transition...
                        that's a happy baby!
