    Re: Roll Call 8/27

    Good Morning Everybody,

Closed up a good week (clean induction - NO COFFEE/DECAF) and exercised all week too. Feeling good about that but today was my official weigh in. No loss. The only thing I can think it could be is I was at this exact weight for over a year. Dr. Atkins said when you hit a weight your body lived in for awhile it is "comfortable" there and may take awhile to get past it. Grrr-I can remember struggling at this weight last summer so, that might be true in my case now......so, I will continue on into my second week of reinduction. Thankfully, what I have learned this second time around will keep me plugging along. This weigh HAS to come off sometime. I can be patient - I feel good. So, if I can't get to 175 until Christmas then so be it. I have set my end goal for June and it is still extremely doable if I stick with this plan.

I do still miss my coffee although the headaches from caffeine withdrawl are pretty much gone. I am proud of myself I have not given into the coffee temptation AT ALL!

Jess, love the new pic! Have a great day All!

I can still make it- only using splenda this Hug is for Evermind. Thanks for reminding me of this in a round about way

I have a feeling I will be in the first rung for many weeks just trying to adjust to this. I think I read somewhere that it takes about 12 weeks to turn something like this into a habbit. Well I want the habbit of eating plenty of vegi's. I am gettiing ready to take a Vegan Cooking Class- Not that I am going vegan, but because a friend recomended it for getting more comfortable with vegi's.
      Hi, Julie

I just wanted to let you know that I stayed on Rung 1 for 2 months. I was never a veggie eater before Atkins, and never tried new things on my first go-around with it. I just stuck to salads. I think one of the things that contributed to my backslide that first time around was not breaking out of my box and trying lots of veggies with an open mind. A clean induction really does change your tastes, and I am proud to say that I absolutely love veggies now and usually only eat meat once a day. Rung 1 is a great one... on the weeks that you don't introduce new foods, you can up your carbs by 5 at a time to start the process of finding your CCLL. During the time I spent on Rung 1, trying new things some weeks and upping carbs on the other weeks, is when I lost weight the most steadily. Take your time, and enjoy the ride.

I did want to point out, though, that acorn squash is not legal until Rung 8 - it is considered a starchy vegetable. There are some squashes that are legal during Induction, but acorn squash and butternut squash are Rung 8 veggies.

About the pumpkin - I use Libby's canned pumpkin that is available year-round here. If it is available where you live, it will probably be located next to the baking items in the grocery store. Make sure to read the label carefully so that you pick up the 100% pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling, which is also made by Libby's and looks a lot like the pie filling, which has sugar in it. Here is the recipe for what I eat:

In a bowl, I mix 1/2 of a can of pumpkin (which is .88 cups) with 2 ounces of cream cheese. I put this in the microwave for 45 seconds then take it out and stir well. I then add a few drops of liquid Splenda, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons of allspice and stir. I am past rung 3 in OWL and eating 35 to 40 net carbs, so I also add 1 ounce of almonds, which is about 22 that I cut in half (so I can have 44 nuts ). I then put it back in the microwave for about 50 seconds, stir, and it is done. I find that the warmer it is, the better it tastes. And I really, really love this stuff. Beware, though! This concoction contains 15 net carbs. So anyone who doesn't want to use up that many carbs can leave out the nuts and/or cut back on portion sizes of the ingredients. It is also has a high fat percentage, but I don't stress over that. This makes a lot, too, so you may not need to make this much. My husband always talked about how good it smells when I make it, so I made it for him one day. He couldn't finish it all because it is kinda rich. Cutting this in half would have been enough for him. I always finish mine.

Sounds like everyone is doing really well with their personal goals... looks like giving up caffiene is a common thread. Thankfully, I have never been a coffee drinker... I would hate to have to give that up. I did used to enjoy the occasional diet Cherry Coke Zero, but I have given that up because it is made with aspartame in my part of the country. I understand that it is pretty intense to give up caffiene, and I am cheering on those of you who are following through on your goals.

        Re: Roll Call 8/27

Afternoon STACers. I had a hectic morning with a missing school bus but I'm down 2 pounds finally. Having a plan is not something I try to do on a regular basis. I always need to be ready to think out of the box in terms of my eating and exercise. My kids keep me on my toes mostly so I tend to go with the flow and make sure that I am flexable enough to be able to stay with this WOE otherwise I'd be doomed to failure.

Perhaps now that they are back in school a regular routine can be put in place but I doubt it. When the weather calms down I plan to be out most of the day with my daughters. I can't wait for that to happen!! It's already in the mid 90's here and I have to get to the supermarket because I am out of meat and veggies. Not a good thing when on Atkins--lol. I just don't want to go out in this temperature--yuck.

I suppose I should just get going and finish already.

          Hello, Candy

It has been my experience that our bodies do definitely have "set points" at different weights. As a lot of us have, I have lost and gained a lot of pounds at different times in my life, and I have noticed that both going up in weight and going down, I tend to "hang out" at certain numbers for a good while before finally continuing on in whatever direction I happen to be going.

I love what you say above... that you have learned to keep plugging along because the weight has to come off sometime... that you will be patient. Let me tell you, Candy, this is perhaps one of the most important concepts to learn and accept - patience and perseverence are the key to success! Good for you... you are going to do great.

I use Libby canned pumpkin, too, or whatever is on sale. Just not pumpkin pie mix. The cans DO tend to look alike.

I have tried the cream cheese and pumpkin recipe, and it's good. I also sometimes just take 1/2 cup of pumpkin, a dash of heavy cream, an egg, and some sugar-free caramel syrup and mix it up and then nuke it until cooked. (cooked is something slightly fluffy and solidified, but not like pumpkin pie is).

I also will fry up some yellow summer squash in olive oil, then melt parmasan cheese over it - that has more carbs than zuchini, to which I do the same thing.

                Re: Roll Call 8/27

I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts today so many ideas and information out there I can just read and absorb!!!!!! I do have a question about making stuff that is kind of sweet even if it's naturally sweet to see if anyone else has this issue. When I was in my original time changing over to the Atkins lifestyle everytime I tried anything that was sweet or dessert like it would make me so crazy for sweets that I would eventually fall of the wagon ......... so I have this time decided nothing even remotely sweet tasting was ok for me ......... when I read these recipies and ideas they all sound so good but i am terrified to try any of them ........... has anyone else had those issues, how do you handle it or do you just not ever eat them?????? I am so weak maybe it's just me. I do so good as long as I just stay away from anything sweet.

                Help???????

                    Hello, Heidi

Oh, yes, I do indeed have this issue. I have tons of recipes for induction legal goodies that I have never made because I am afraid. I did make an induction legal cheesecake on Easter Sunday and brought that to dinner at my mom's. I had one piece, and it was so delicious that I left the rest of it at her house. I didn't want it in the house.

The pumpkin recipe I posted is what I have for breakfast every morning, and it makes me so full that I don't eat lunch for quite a while, and I don't eat much at lunch. It hasn't caused cravings for me. At night, I will sometimes have either cottage cheese or greek yogurt (both Rung 2 items) with a couple of drops of Splenda and a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa mixed in. So for, these are the only 2 sweet indulgences I allow myself. I have tested them, and they don't cause cravings for me. I am still scared to try any other sweets. I am afraid it will be a slippery slope for me.

Evermind, your ideas sound fantastic and I will try them.

Liz, thank you for the kind words. And, OMG on that dream! Scary stuff.
