  • Lightbulb Moment!

Okay, for those of you who read my last post, you know I was down on myself at the 2-week mark.

After that, I picked myself up off the floor and carried on, trying to maintain a positive attitude.

Then I weighed myself at the 4-week mark and I lost one pound...one measly pound.

Today I was still feeling pretty down and wondering why the heck I was even bothering to stick to this WOE if it wasn't going to benefit me! I missed fruit and milk dammit!

I kept beating myself up wondering why I kept failing to lose this weight. Why didn't I lose it faster? Why did "everyone else" lose it faster when I couldn't? Why? WHY? WHY?

Then *BINGGGG* lightbulb moment. I have failed in the past because every little victory I have had was never good enough so I gave up. I always wanted to lose just "a few more pounds". I never measured up to the expectations I had set for myself. But now I realize that, while bigger weight losses during induction are possible and even probable for a lot of people, it just isn't possible for *me*. So now, instead of wondering why I don't get fast results like others have, I made a pact with myself to understand *my* body and know the realistic goals that I can achieve. Otherwise, I will be setting myself up for failure.

Talk about being your own worst enemy!

So anyway, I've lost 7.8 pounds in 4 weeks and I am proud of myself! That's a little less than 7 pounds away from onederland! BAH, that's nothing!

Now pardon me while I go drink myself into oblivion (with water that is!)

Sounds like you had a major lightbulb moment!!! Congratulations on your weight loss & for embracing it. Have you taken your measurments?? For me knowing how many inches I have lost helped to keep me from beating myself up. I too had a minimal loss during Induction...but lost 9.5". Again congrats!!

No I didn't take my measurements, but wish I had!! My clothes are definitely looser and I think going to the gym is building muscle (and endurance) as well.

Of course, it helps keep me motivated that my husband is gone away to work for 3 months and I really want for him to come home to one sexy mama! tee hee

He's in for a big surprise isn't he! You should still take your measurements & keep track. Isn't it wonderful to have clothes that are lose.

Revelation! Gotta love it...It's been there for me, and illuminated many a moment in this last yr...It's the stuff you hold on to and really cling to....Settling down the expectations will allow you to continue FORWARD on your plan.
I had a huge revelation one day, that when I had done all I could to help it along, I needed to accept JUST THAT and relax and just trust my body, the alternative would have been to get ticked off and quit! Now quitting would land me back in carb world which has no options other than fat for me.

I can't think of anything else I'd rather witness than someones lightbulb moment. You have so pinned the tail on the donkey with this one. Weight loss is so personal and should be applauded no matter what the scale says. The fact remains that you are losing--how much is just a formality.

You should definately get a measuring tape. I've been enjoying mine immensly. I've also recently learned that you can be losing inches while the scale is showing the same numbers! Who knew??

Congrats on your losses and keep plowing through!!! You're an inspiration.

                        Re: Lightbulb Moment!

I can totally relate! I was getting bummed too b/c I lost 8 lbs. the first two weeks then NOTHING more at week four (even gained a pound on my official 'weigh in' day), and I couldn't understand why I wasn't losing as fast as last time I did Atkins. But when I went back to my 2003 calendar, I realized I lost just as slowly last time too (a pound or LESS a week)--but even losing that slowly I did eventually get to my goal and stay there a couple years.

So, I'm with ya-- we may lose at our own paces, but we WILL eventually get there. And in fact, we have a great likelihood of keeping it off b/c we will have been sticking to plan longer than some lucky folks who lose rapidly.
                        FINISH IT!

                          Re: Lightbulb Moment!

                          Thanks all!!

I also just realized that the medication I am taking for Fibromyalgia is known to cause weight gain. (Elavil) I would guess that is contributing to my slow weight loss, which, somehow, makes me feel a little better too. I'm almost tempted to give them up (but of course, I won't). But I do feel so much better physically now, since I am losing weight and going to the gym.
