Morning STACers, well it's Sept 1. Alot of Re-starts are popping up, gearing up to re-enter this way of life. Good for you! We are so proud you've come back! I am sure that you are back here because Atkins and low carb really work for you....
I came back because it really does work. But mostly I came back because I know without a doubt my body thrives on a low carb routine. I am starting my 14th month...and my body still thrives on low carb eating. My life is completely different! and I live a very different way than I use to. It's no longer something I CONCENTRATE on, now it's something I just focus on, and then live. My battles are far and few between....
We ate out last night had fatjitas, steaks and all the trimmings, bursting and sizzling on the platter....it was a new resturant and along with the streak came this little thing of refried beans....they looked awesome! But I've not gone that high on the rungs, so I just pushed them to them to the corner...my husband just sat there and said, "it's automatic now isn't it?" I said, "yep" He looked my our daughter eating a taco salad, and leaving the shell...I smiled at him and said, "I don't want to go back into what "that" (pointing to his monster burrito) makes me feel like.

RESTARTERS in a few days you will be in ketosis and feeling goood, and clear headed and energized....you will begin to have some pride in your choice to come here...Stay around, and help us create a great community here!

    Re: Roll Call 9/1

Good Morning everyone! Happy Saturday to you! I had a hard night last night but made it through with no blunders ........ I think the excitement of everything being good with my daughter made me antsy and looking for something to settle me down which in the past has almost always been food. BUT i did a work out on my Eliptical and tired myself out so I went to bed earlier then usual and just slept through what could have been a long hard evening! I wish I was strong enough to just conquer those moments but I am still working on that. So I guess sleeping through it was my next best option! ( is that cheating? LOL)

Today is a new day and I feel great! Hubby is working this morning, the big kids are at their fathers so it's me and the two little ones today. I am watching my grandson overnight tonight so that ought to keep me busy. Caleb is 3, Olivia is 2, and my grandson Tyler is 1 !!!!! Yep busy night .......... hmmmmmm does that count as excercise????? *wishful thinking*

OK I better scoot my day is waiting to begin! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a successful Atkins day!!!!!!!!!

Hey Jess, great pic, love the sandals...you are looking so slim and trim and streamlined with you cute little outfit ...WOW incredible diffrerence from first pic. Hopefully the restarters will see the difference and KNOW they can do it too.
I hit 148.4 today and made my LDC goal , so i have something to celebrate today....MUP will be my treat (mitzi's ultimate pumpkin) thought i'd add another acronym to this crazy place of acronym lovers.
For all you restarters, this CAN be done, Jess pulled me through at the frustrating beginnings, and I almost bailed, but she had the rope too tight around me neck and drug me with her.....Now I have blown away 24 yucky globs of fat in 3 months....If anyone one of you needs an ADBB buddy, just PM me and I'll hang with yah....Have a wonderful LBD weekend.

Howdy, all! Jess, the date in the title pinged me. First of September! Yep, time to rock-n-roll!

As Scooter the Man would say, Life is Good! I finished my first week on the job and THANKFUL for the three-day weekend! This job is going to be a Challenge with a capital "C". A good Challenge, mind you! The head is swimming at the end of the day and I'm quite tired. It's nothing to be in bed by 8:30 or 9:00. Totally perfect for me!

Anywho, it was easy to stick to Atkins except one respect. I started enjoying their coffee there a little too well and haven't been drinking the water I should be. So I need to change that habit now. Otherwise, I haven't used their vending machines at all or gone out for lunch. I bring my own so it's completely controlled. We were moved into our cubicles yesterday so now I can bring more in and stash things there. Unless I'm eating with a friend who works there, I plan to eat in my cubicle and then go for a walk. Now that it's the first of the month, it's time to get going again on working out. Especially after the sitting I'll be doing there. It feels really good to be moving around here today, doing housework and then outdoor chores later.

One funny, though. I thought I'd be able to sleep in this morning. It didn't happen! I woke up at 4:00 (without the alarm) and that's all she wrote! Oh well, still have gotten a lot done since I've been up! LOL!

This made me laugh. We count babies' ages in months until they turn about 2yrs. 14th month. Will you count by month for two years? Your new life.

Where is that bum? I sent him a pm weeks ago, but he never even read it. I suppose his computer could be broken, but I have a feeling he might end up being a re-start.

No mail yet today. Where's my liquid sweetner?

I measured my waist and it was 9-10 inches smaller! Can you believe that? I started this with a 50in waist (did I really just confess that?) and now it's 40-41in depending where I put the tape measure. I guess it was getting smaller even during those weeks I wasn't losing!!

No plans this weekend, but that's okay. I LOVE long weekends! Yea!!!!!!!

                Re: Roll Call 9/1

A new month & some new beginnings in my house. DH starts a new job on Tues. No weekends or holidays for him at the new job! This is literally his first holiday weekend that he has not had to work in the 10 yrs we've been together. It will be interesting to have him home on Saturdays as they've always been my day for just me.

My new beginning is going to be changing my attitude about exercise. I'm going to swim today, begin the stability ball challenge...the challenge is going to be not rolling off & go for a walk with DH & stepdaughter.

                Have a great day everyone!

                  Hi, Sherhic

Welcome! I just wanted to express my opinion with regard to "Dr. Atkins' latest books". We use the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. The books that have been written since then are put out by the corporation that took over after Dr. A's death. I have read the new one which focuses on how to do Induction, and found many differences to what Dr. A himself wrote. These newer books are geared to support the corporation's interest in convenience products like bars and shakes. While many do incorporate these into their menus once they are in maintenance, it is best not to have them until then. Although they advertise that they are only 2 or 3 net carbs, the ingredients need to be considered. Some of them are not legal until higher rungs, and sugar alcohols affect everyone differently. My best advice is to stick to the 2002 version of DANDR and eat as many whole, unprocessed foods as possible.

About the SF Jello - this contains aspartame and technically is not allowed. Having said this, I have heard of some who have been able to have it without adverse effects. Personally, I have found that aspartame stalls me so I don't eat it. I would advise others to at least avoid it during a clean 2 week induction, then see how it affects you if you still want to have it.

One of the purposes of Induction is to break some cycles... not giving in to that craving for something sweet during Induction is one of the things that we are working on. It breaks a pattern. I cannot stress enough the importance of a clean 2 week Induction. It completely turns your body around in how it runs. Your tastes will change, and if you have an open enough mind to try new things, you will find that you like things that you never thought you would. I was never a veggie eater - are you kidding me? I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. And on my first time around on Atkins, I never broke out of my box by adding new foods. After losing 60 pounds, I stalled out because I was existing on mostly nuts, seeds, berries, cherries, and salads. It was easy to lose my way when I had no structure... I ate no veggies except salads. I ended up re-gaining 32 pounds before I came to my senses. This time around, I stayed on Rung 1 (the veggie rung) for 2 months. On the weeks that I wasn't trying new veggies, I was upping my carbs to begin the process of finding my CCLL. So, my advice here is to move on to OWL after Induction and begin the process of properly going through the rungs. Rung 1 is an awesome rung and you can hang out there for as long as you want. It will change your life.

There are some great recipes in the forums here, so look around and find something. If you put forth the effort, you should never feel deprived on Atkins. I understand the idea of not wanting to put forth the effort with recipes and cooking... I was NOT a cook before Atkins. I had even tried NutriSystem before my Atkins re-start because the thought of little effort was very appealing to me. It sucked! Atkins is not a diet as much as it is an entire lifestyle change. And it occured to me that I had to get my butt in gear and take an active role in my health. I bit the bullet and dove in. I will be the first one to admit that for *me*, doing Atkins correctly takes a great deal of effort. But, since I have stopped fighting that notion and have, instead, embraced it, I feel better than I ever have in my life. If you work Atkins, Atkins WILL work for you.

                  Best Wishes!

Good Morning Everyone... I am gearing up in my head for a restart on Tuesday.. I have foods planned.. Although I was really bad yesterday and had Ice Cream..and really paid for it bathroom wise.. Will I ever learn? I have had a headache for like 4 days now Its all the carbs in my body.. Last night I fixed Burgers on the grill..and yes I had mine on the bun.. Why because I told myself that I was restarting on Tuesday and it wouldn't hurt.. But it does hurt.. it hurts my stomach.. When I restart I will NOT cheat.. I can't.. because all it does is send me a bad spiral down...

                          WOO HOO! LABOR DAY WEEKEND!

I am going to have fun this weekend. I'm going to get better organized (kitchen, bedroom, office) so that when school starts next week I will be able to work, exercise and play in an efficient fashion. I'm going to finally get to the beach! I'm going to run at the beach, to see what that's like. And I'm going to enjoy the last 3-days of no obligations for awhile. Love it. Savoring it.

Everyone here is doing SO well.

Jess, when we get into the RHYTHM, be it running or dealing with food, or whatever, THAT is when it becomes a way of life that is natural. You've got it. I found it running yesterday. It's a good thing.

Heidi - have fun with the babies! And yes, that counts as exercise! Are you KIDDING?

Blazing - AWESOME on meeting the goal! You inspire me every day. Truly inspire me.

Terry - I understand about the coffee/water thing. SO easy to slide. I've decreased the coffee, but I noticed this week while I was setting up my classroom that the water thing was not going as well as I had hoped, even though I brought several bottles and had them in the classroom. <sigh> Well, that's a goal for September for me.

Welcome, Sher! You and your partner will be right at home here. To answer your question, and I speak as a person with a strong sweet tooth who, until this time around, absolutely HAD to have something sweet in the evening (for some reason now I don't ALWAYS need that), the answer is yes, you can have sugar-free jello. It does cause some people to stall, but not many.

Some things for her to try: jello with whipped cream. Jello blended (before it sets) with cream cheese. Heavy cream whipped with cocoa powder, dash of vanilla, and splenda (chocolate mousse, basically). Cocoa bark: take coconut oil, put it in a pot, set it on low on the stove, add cocoa powder and splenda, stir till melted, then spread on a sheet of waxed paper and chill (i put it in the freezer) until hard.

Sheepie - TADA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inches lost - that's a WHOPPING change! Aren't you jazzed?!!!!!

Glenda - congrats on starting the exercise. Stay on that ball! STAY! (and tell me how you do it. I ahve no idea what one does with a stability ball?) They have one at the gym near the mats, but I haven't seen anyone use it, and I'm embarassed to ask.

hiya, Mitzie! I love seeing your before and during picture every morning! That's what I want to happen to MY body.

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

                          Mini goals:

                          180

                          I survived a two-month stall!

                            Good Morning, Terry!

It's great to hear from you. I know that you have been really busy, and I'm glad that you are doing so well. Everything is falling into place.

I know what you mean about the getting up early thing... over the summer I had gotten a little spoiled with not having to get up so early. The start of school changed all of that. I was looking forward to sleeping late this morning, but ended up being at the grocery store by 6:45 because I was up. It's amazing how fast my body adjusted to the different hours. I'm tired early and up early. Like you said, though - we can get a lot done.

Best wishes on all of your new starts, Terry. We're glad you're here.

                              Me, again

I just wanted to say a few more things, then I have GOT to go.

Heidi, watching those kids *does* count for exercise in my book! Bless you.

Sheepie, great job on the inches lost. Nice! I sure do hope that your Splenda comes soon. It was agony waiting for that first shipment, but it did stress the improtance of the idea of re-odering early.

Glenda, it's great that you'll have DH home on Saturdays. Yay! And good for you on the new beginning on attitude for exercise. I find that I have to make myself do it... like now! I am always glad I did after it's done. I really do need to walk away from the computer this morning and get some done.

Sandy, it's nice to hear from you again. You know what you need to do... it's just a matter of getting your head "straight". We're here if you need us.

Evermind, you sound right on target as usual. I am very impressed with the fact that you run! Wow. Great news about being able to go to the beach - Enjoy!

                              See you losers later!
