Good morning,
Most of you know that I have needed encouragement the past couple of days. I am not seeing the weight loss that I feel like I deserve (ha) after six days of induction. Only one pound actually.
So, I turned to you and I also turned to Dr. Atkins. On page 215, he discusses uses and abuses of induction. My problem is that I have spent the past three years yo- yo dieting. I have mentioned before that I reached goal in 2002 and have since been yo-yo ing! The last six months, I have been "low calorie" eating which caused a weight gain of about twenty more pounds.
He states, "Induction not only jump starts your weight loss, it is also a convenient refuge to which you can retreat whenever you need to get off a weight loss plateau or to get back on the program after a lapse."
He goes on to say, "However, induction can be abused and that abuse can ultimately threaten your ability to maintain a healthy weight"
Page 216, he says, "Another more serious concern I have is the impact this back and forthing can have on your metabolism. It is likely that your metabolism will adapt at a certain point - in a sense, developing a tolerance. People who repeatedly regain weight and go back to induction sometimes find that they do not experience the dramatic and easy weight loss they initially enjoyed."
And, "If you keep retreating to induction from Lifetime Maintenance, it becomes a form of yo-yo dieting. I'm not saying you shouldn't go back to induction when you need it. I'm simply saying don't do it regularly, in the belief that it will always work the same way for you. You may be in for a nasty surprise."
I think that this is happening to me. After so long of yo-yo dieting and re-re-re-re starting induction, it is HARD! That just means that I have to work harder.
So, be careful folks.
