  • Holidays

I think that Meena and I, and probably a few others, have some religious holidays beginning this week.

I was wondering how people handle the food issue? I'm talking in terms of fasting and feasting, as well as what to make that is special.

Yes ma'am--you are right. This is not something usually done with this WOE so it's tough to work around it. This year though, I will not be joining in the fasting because I am breastfeeding and I need to keep things hydrated in order to feed my little one.

However, everyone else in my family will be--and I'm the one who has to cook. Ugh. Not to mention this is the month when everyone and their whoo haa comes running after you with sweets. In terms of my grand scope, I am VERY forthcoming about my WOE. I make no excuses or apologies and I never allow anyone to come between me and my no thank you. Usually if you are firm and steadfast in your beliefs people respect that and leave you alone. People sometimes question me and I once had someone tell me that any diet that wouldn't let you eat something like a carrot couldn't be good for you. That took me about an hour to explain that it's not like I can't have carrots for the rest of my life.....blah blah blah.

That doesn't help the yummy smells though..... I wish I could turn my nose off. All the yummy dishes..... Everyone tries so hard to outdo the other. lol.

I just say, holidays should be treated like any other normal day and we should shift our focus from the food to the great company and community of friends and family. And make sure to pass those rolls really fast when they get around to you!!!

      Re: Holidays

Feasting, feasting, well I have always brought my own food, and planned my exit strategy...I have eaten before hand, and or brought side dishes that I can handle...
I don't over eat, I focus on the people, just barely bringing food up...Not really anybody's business!!!! I don't seek to please my family, or friends, I ask my hostess if I can bring a few things of my own, and they are usually very understanding, and of COURSE DRINK TONS OF WATER!!!!!

        Re: Holidays

I've got a big family dinner to prepare on Wed, so I am thinking about making a brisket and a chicken, mashed potatos and faux cauli potatos, and some other veggie side dishes. I am worried about resisting the temptation to eat really, really good BREAD, but I think if I eat a lot of fat, I won't feel the urge.

I would like to have a glass of red wine, but I may just go with the obligatory sip - we'll see. My big concern will be that it will cause me to give in to temptation.

I mostly worry about dessert. I will make the usual honey cake and sponge cake and all of that stuff, but I would like one absolutely yummy thing for me. Perhaps a cheesecake.......though I have never found a fabulous recipe for a low carb version - does anyone have one?

OWL rung 2 appropriate and absolutely THE BEST cheesecake IMO.

Also, if you can get a good exercise workout BEFORE the "feast" that should help curb your appetite a bit.

Here's a recipe for honey cake, but I don't know if you eat nuts or not. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/des.../honeycake.htm I haven't made it, but a few years ago I made a similar almond pound cake several times and it was soooooooooo good! This one says that you can leave out the honey, but it probably wouldn't hurt to add just the tiniest, and I mean tiny, symbolic drop. I used to make cheesecakes too and I was looking at recipes online last night. There are so many!
