  • TOM get's me every time

TOM is such a sneaky @&!*. I will be sooo motivated and then I get these cravings which I thus far have been unable to resist. Do you guys have any suggestion as to what I can try to overcome this 1 or 2 days a month that I just seem to sabotage all the hard work of the previous days.

I have re-started so many times and I now know that this (TOM) was one of the reasons, not just me giving up. Does anyone have any ideas they cold share with me of anything that worked for them?

I use L-Glutamine in powder form. It helps a great deal with cravings! When you feel them really coming on, you ca add a scoop of that to some crystal lite, I use the sticks you pour into a bottle, sprinkle just enough to flavor a half a cup of water, and i add the powder, which is tasteless and stir it up and swallow...For me, IT HELPS! Dr Atkins is big into it.

You know, don't you, that if men menstruated, they'd have arranged for themselves to be placed into a medically-induced coma for 5 days a month....

I think the key is to focus on making sure you have yummy treats you CAN eat when you have a craving, rather than avoiding everything.

If you are into sweets, check out dessert recipes: cheesecake, flan, clouds, etc.

If it's salty you crave, check out deep fried kale (tastes JUST like popcorn) and other crunchy, salty snacks.

Make sure you have a variety of them available during that time of the month.

I have a stash of Pork Rinds for TOM, I don't eat them at any other time. It's normally savoury things I crave. When im on the nut rung, I will allow myself a small pot of nuts. This usually takes the edge off.

Don't smack me ............ but I don't have TOM anymore because of a hysterectomy BUT I still do have cravings and I often wonder if I mapped it out if it would be that timing???? Regardless like everyone else has said when those cravings hit the hardest the very best thing you can do is have something legal that will pull you through ........ also set your mind ........ make it a goal and get through it one hour at a time if necessary ......Try excercise, drink lots more water, try the powder, try everything but just set your mind that you will make it .......... I think if you can conquer the beast just once and break your pattern of succombing to it then you would find the next month much easier ...... Hang in there girl you CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TOM get's me every time

I started a thread the other day in the main forum called does atkins help with pms. I get it really bad. The cravings and mood swings seem to sneak up on me every month. I have decided to keep track of that tom so that I can look for them before they sneak up. Then I can better prepare myself.

Re: TOM get's me every time

I used to have severe PMS. Horrible cravings etc. Then my DR gave me a prescription for the Low Dose pill YAZ. I don't have to have TOM, I just skip the white pills. I do this for 3 months then let myself have a 4 day TOM....

It is very light. I have very little cramps and zero craving and I was nice to everyone The best part is that my low back doesn't hurt for 2 weeks each month.

This was huge for me. After having terrible periods and always gaining about 8# being totally bloated and hurting so much.

I recomend it to everyone who can actually take the pill.

Thank you guys for the great ideas! I have written them all down and I agree - I need to prepare better for them and make sure that I have something legal that I love on hand!!!!! I will test some recipes during the next couple of weeks to make sure that I am prepared.

Thank a million, I'll let you know what works!

I'm so glad you posted this....I've been battling cravings all week!! I tried to find the L-glutamine Jess spoke of, but haven't found it yet...I'll have to look harder. I totally agree though--it's frustrating to undo all the work I've done b/c of TOM. I feel like everything is going well and then BAM, I'm searching the back of the freezer for chocolate!
