  • How Many Calories?

Hello again - I am back again, starting today. I've forgotten some things, and am in the middle of re-reading, researching etc., but before today is over, I need to know if 1200 calories is the ideal daily amount, or if over is okay? According to Fitday, with the meal I have planned for dinner, I will have eaten 1400 or a bit more. Is that okay??

I tried really hard working the day out at Fitday but I made a mistake by eating sardines in oil as a snack, when I should have worked out my whole day first I think!

Thanks, and there will be a lot more reading tonight and from now on till I know everything again!!

    Re: How Many Calories?

I think you are going to be told DO NOT worry about the calories.. Especially in Induction. The object is to get the bad carbs out of your body. Then later on when you start to find you are stalling you may limit your numbers. If you stick to 1200 calories you are NOT going to be eating enough food

Thankyou for replying Btw, almost dinner time and I am STAAAARVING!!!!!!! I wonder where I read the first time around that it should be 1200 calories? What is the goal then, Sandy, each day (I know what it is percentage wise, F/C/P)

      Thanks again...

Sandy's right, just caluclate and count carb grams...Go to the induction chapter in the DANDR book, eat off the "allowed foods" and count only carbs....even if you chew a piece of Gum, and or use sweetner packets...The rules there will guide you to 20g of carbs, it's this low so your body has no choice but to turn to fat for fuel, by day 3 you should have flipped your metabolism, and be in ketosis and the STARVATION will diminish greatly!

There really is no ideal goal. You shouldn't even be thinking about calories! Forget them! After induction, and probably a bit later than that, you might want to give them a little thought. Just a little. Don't make them your focus though. This is about carbs. Good luck!

What you probably read is your calories should NEVER BE UNDER 1200! But, during induction and even through most of OWL you should worry about eating to satisfy your hunger and NOT counting calories.

EAT, EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not even THINK about the calories right now.

If you feel at all hungry, have something to eat, preferably something with fat in it.

Later on, when you've gotten firmly into ketosis, there will come a time when you have to force yourself to eat. THAT is when you worry about calories - not too many, but too few!

If you go to fitday.com and set up a free account, you can keep track of your food intake (protein, carbs, fat, calories) and your activities (exercise). It's great. When you enter your info, it will automatically tell you what your basal metabolic rate is. You will want to APPROXIMATELY stay around that number of calories per day. Mine happens to be 1678 per day right now, and I weigh 214.5 lbs.

I rarely eat that many calories, because I'm just not very hungry, but I try very hard to get up close to it.

I am sure someone will give you the precents.. But think about it this way.. We eat high fat..which means a lot of calories..so if you try to limit it to 1200 you will be starving.. Eat! Eat a NICE Juicy Steak and Enjoy it

                  The percentages I believe are:
                  65% calories from FAT
                  30% calories from PROTIEN
                  5% calories from CARBS

                    Re: How Many Calories?

Wow, thanks for all that advice, and it sounds good!! Eating all I want sounds a lot better than being hungry, so I will be following that advice!

My memory is so bad about my first Atkins endeavour earlier this year, which is why I have to re-learn so much

It's my second day this time, it's 9 p.m., had dinner and I'm not hungry - but I do miss my old food quite a bit... orange juice especially, and some type of dessert after dinner (that bit of sweetness!) When I made the kids a fruit salad, I told them how lucky they were to be eating that banana, apple and orange! But it will all be worth it in the end

                    Thankyou all again.
