Alexa, I have always run intermittently, but when I started training for this one back in February I could barely run 1/2 mile without stopping. So I trained pretty hard for about 3 months, but in May I traveled to Ireland for a few weeks and the wheels kind of fell off my car. I didn't run at all there, then couldn't really get motivated to run again when I got back, so for the whole summer I sort of messed around, running 2-3 miles at a time. I am CERTAIN if I had stayed on track I would have been able to run the whole 13.1 without stopping, but as it was I was amazed I even ran 10 without stopping! You can do it! My favorite book was 'The NonRunner's Guide to Marathon Training'. Excellent program with as much emphasis on the mental as on the physical.

You know you've kept up with all your goals. I am so inspired by this! You have done a great job! That Saab is getting closer and closer, and how cool will that be....I can easily see you doing a triathlon!

PT, girl I am gonna TRI to talk you into this, because it's so much fun. I know I'm just hyped up on it, but having spent so much time, 6 months maybe on wanting to be a runner and running all the time and getting very tired doing it, yet capable...Tri training was a breath of fresh air....changing up the sport every day is magical to the muscles! Giving yourself rest to the running legs, and then rest to the swimming arms and then rest to the biking butt, and still exercise in a different way each day....it's changed my whole out look.
I can see why it's such a big deal.

Jess~!! Now you really have my curiousity piqued. So much so, that I just ordered a new Speedo swimsuit and bought some goggles....do I really need a swim cap (I have long hair) or do most people just pull it back? What did people have on at the actual race? I am also on Ebay to buy some padded bike shorts....I am very excited about this! CAn I use a trail bike (which i have) or a mountain bike/road bike (which I need to buy)? Thanks for your help!!! I am goign to give this a try!! I lvoe the idea of not just running all the time (boring). I guess I should have PM'd you all this, but I was too excited after reading your last post!!

PT, girl check out the bottom of my siggy, because I have a link to the triathlon thread I started.
Everybody gets a swim cap to wear and you have to wear it in the race. Usually a neon color so you can be seen...as far as bike short those will be great to ride in as you build your biking base...I have a cross trainer bike, and a road bike, I love the road bike and since I bike all the time, it's worth it for me...you can bike in any bike but the "nicer the easier"...
I have pictures in my journal, I wore a jog bra, under my bathing suit, and a pair of tri shorts (bike type shorts with a thin padding) over the suit and I swam in them, and biked in em, and ran in them....I have recently bought the tri top I have on in the picture in my siggy, so I could have the option of a "two piece" get up....easier to go to the bathroom in.
I just came in from an open water swim at the lake we will race on in 2 weeks...It kicked my butt! I am sooo tired....
