  • Gain

Today is my offical weigh day and I'm up +4. I just can't understand why though.

Other than the fact that I've been exercising regularly I haven't done anything else radical to gain. When you put that together with the fact that just a few days ago the scale was DOWN a pound and two weeks in a row I remained the same--one has to scratch their head and say--what the heck is going on.

I'm up four pounds but lost a half inch around my hips. Make sense??? If so, could someone explain it to me? lol.

    Re: Gain

Are you pretty new to the exercise? The first few weeks of exercise or new exercise it is very normal to see a gain. As the muscle tissue breaks down due to stress from the exercise the cells refill with water to repair or something on that order. I know glycogen is somewhere in that explanation too. I forget exactly how though!
I know at one time I had started pilates. I gained and held that gain for over 3 weeks however my pants were getting HUGE. Go by the inches!!! You'll be lots happier!

      Re: Gain

I began regular exercise the beginning of the month so I was thinking that's why I wasn't moving the scale--but now there is a gain which is oddball since I haven't been doing anything different and just a few days ago I had a pound loss.

Maybe it's just the scale messing with my mind.

        Re: Gain

That very well could be. Scales suck! I swear they are a curse. Years ago when I lost alot of weight I didn't own one but weighed at the clinic every week or two. I think the worst thing I ever did was buy one a few years back.
I know I can jump 1-5 lbs any given day for no darn reason. I think especially for us girls clothes are a better indicator with our hormones and all.
Are your menus all good lately?

            Re: Gain

Meena I had a gain this week too of 2 lbs .......... I was really discouraged because I have been upping my excercise and the only change I made was adding nore veggies mostly cauliflower to my diet ........ can it be possible that I am not able to have more then the 20 carbs a day forever?????? Ya know I could live with that if I have to but I was really hoping that wouldn't be the case ....... I have always had a very slow metabolism my doc was heloing me find ways to change that but it just never seems to change ........ I was hoping more water , more sleep and lots more excercise would boost me a little but it looks like it just might not be the case .......... anyways sorry I didn't mean for my response to be about me I just wanted you to know I feel for you because I'm there too ............ I wish I had some answers but will be watching this thread to see if the experts have some good advice or answers for you ........ Hugs I know you know we just gotta keep on keeping on ........

I'm up 3lbs. Very discouraged, but I tell myself that it's either that time of the month or I'll blame Mitzi and her pumpkin dish! LOL! We just need to be more patient, I think.

Hey, ladies...I totally feel your pain inside out upside down and back wards. Fluid retention is a meanie and just plain sucks. But hang in there! It's all good!

                    Scales are stupid.

The measuring tape is the accurate one, not the scale. Meena - you've LOST! That's all that matters!

Hang in there, everyone. I'm not up, but it's happened to me before, and it was never for fat reasons.

                      Re: Gain

Well, as far as measurements go I'm down a half inch on my hips this week, which brings me to a total loss of 13 inches for the month.

I was also thinking something funky was going on with my percents but a few days on fitday and everything was right on track.

New stuff added is peppers, parsley, cabbage, green beans, yogurt (keifer), and peanut butter--the natural kind that's just ground up peanuts.

HAHAHAHA!! I'M GOING WITH THIS! It stinks being in the gain category but at least I'm in good company.

                          Re: Gain

I would personally think 4 lbs is the kind of gain that needs looking at, sorry to be different lol.

is TOM due? if not then i would look at the foods youve added in this week... i only add one food at a time so i KNOW which one it is without having to check each individual one...

either way, dont stress about it, Atkins is an education that you learn as you travel through each rung.

PS natural peanut butter makes me gain, store bought nuts in general make me gain - even if they didnt affect you on the first time around, your body has changed and they could affect you now. same goes for all the new stuff youve added.

emma's right, there are some others that stalled or gained with peanut butter, i remember reading that...maybe you should stay away from that until you are closer to goal. for me, peanuts mean trouble...the only nut i can eat is walnuts, i tried them all and failed with each one....I'm really hoping my 2 lbs are me being sick retaining water...at least that's what everyone is telling me.

                              Yep - what Emma said.

                              - Never add more than 1 new food in a week. Eat it 3 times that week and evaluate at the end of that week.

                              - I avoid peanut butter and will probably never put it in my WOE... too much potential for trouble.

                              - I have had to put yogurt and cottage cheese away until pre-Maintenance because it slowed my losses.

OWL is really a long experiment that takes time and patience... hang in there!
