  • BAD experiences this time...

If I remember correctly, the first time around I experienced almost no side effects, had an extremely successful induction, no problems with energy, sleeping, etc.

This time, I'm now on day 5 and the last four days have been awful. I've had no energy at all, my joints and muscles ache and I'm constantly flushed and sweating. When I wake up in the middle of the night, it takes me some time to figure out exactly where I am and my perceptions are heavily muted. My ability to concentrated both during and outside of work also seem slightly affected.

Now, just to be clear, I am a good boy and very familiar with the diet. I maintain the proper carb to fat to protein ratio, drink LOTS of water, take potassium supplements in addition to a multi and fortify my greens with lots of spinach and other nutrient-enriched veggies. Can anyone think of anything else this might be attributed to? This is very discouraging and I'm supposed to train someone next week to replace me for my current job as well as interviewing with several companies over the next few days/weeks. I can't imagine being up to these challenges the way I feel right now.

sounds to me like a proper case of the flu, rather than induction flu.

Oddly enough, though, I have no sore throat, no headache, no sinus issues...really nothing that I would associate with your standard flu or cold. It's a mystery!

I would hang in there for a few more days and I bet these symptoms will disappear .......... to me everything was more exaggerated the second time around .........Good Luck to you and keep us posted .......

Are you getting plenty of potassium? I went to the dr once a few weeks into lc blaming my meds for severe muscle pain, lethargy. I was severly depleted in potassium and b. Try a t of potassium salt in water and see if you feel better. Can't hurt.

Potassium salt? Is that readily available at pharmacies? I usually just take the pills.

Also, I've seen people mention pain killers quite a bit. While that seems a little excessive, I might just try it if this feeling continues to persist.

Just go buy mortons lite salt in the grocery store (by the salt). I use it on everything after my episode.
I guess a little tylenol couldn't hurt. How long have you been on Atkins?

Well, the first time it was about three months. This time around, I'm in my fifth day.

alternatively foods that are naturally high in potassium would be good... however lack of potassium is usually more - leg cramps etc

Well you could possibly still be early enough to have induction flu then maybe? A little extra potassium and making sure you got all your veggie sure couldn't hurt.

Emma for me it was all over muscle pain but the med definately could have contributed to that factor.
What ever it is I hope you feel better very soon.

I have been through induction numerous times over the years, but this last time was the first time ever that I was attacked by the induction flue. I still think my body was also fighting another illness. It did pass for me after the first week.

I hope you feel better. I did take some Tylenol while I was feeling icky, I also took Nexium (for my stomach). It helped a little.

The more I read about it, the more it sounds like this is the case. Not only are there physical symptoms but it also seems to contribute to anxiety somewhat. It's all very odd.

I did find out today that my girlfriend has recently come down with strep throat. Though I'm pretty sure I had it when I was much younger, I've considered that it might be contributing to these side-effects. Though, again, I'm not at all feverish nor do I have a sore throat. And she's now had it for close to five days.

there is a lot of detoxing going on, where you body is coming out of being lulled by the sugars and carbs it's use to getting. You could literally be going through a withdrawl.
Shortly in a day or two I am sure either the real flu will let up or you will come into a refreshed place. I know I was down and flat for 4 days, headache, fatigue and felt like I was completely wiped out. I did sleep alot, drink tons of water and advil....mine passed in the 5th day. Day 6 became this eutopia for me! I had a cleaning frenzy and felt like I was reborn! New life and energy!!!!
Hopefully if you feel really bad, you will then feel really good like I did.
I did take potassium because i knew I was drinking a ton of water, I used the water to fill me up constantly. it became my fixation and it kept me busy but it also flushed my system and induction already is know for aiding the flush....
Hang in there girl, I'm sure you will feel better shortly
