  • Feel Like Quitting!!!

I am having a very hard time sticking to the diet! I am hardly losing at all, inches or pounds! If I eat what I want, which isn't much at all, I gain. I have gained 4 lbs in 2 days. I'm pretty sure it is the legal amounts of cheese and heavy cream that are stalling me, but I feel like I can't do without them! I really need to lose. I had a 10 lb summer gain, and nothing fits. I don't want to buy new clothes, and I don't want to go to a wedding in early November looking like this. (I have to go, it is my father's wedding). I want to hide. I am so sick of eggs and hamburger patties.

Thanks for listening to my childish tirade!!!

Hi, I hope you continue with Atkins.....Don't give up!! It's not easy to make a lifestyle change and that is exactly what you are doing through your diet. Try devil eggs, celery with low carb dressing, salami microwaved with cheese on top...microwave for about 40 seconds, they turn into chips, make egg salad, make hot wings. Hope this helps!!

      Hi!
I completely understand! Don't give up! This is the best thing you can do... as far as a 4 lb wt gain.... How's your water intake...? Where are you r/t tom? could just be water wt! drink, drink, drink!
Anyways, tuna 'melts' are good... I put my tuna salad on tomatoe slice, and some cheese on top and grill it under the broiler... that's yummy...
also, lettuce wraps with chicken salad or tuna salad or turkey and cheese or ... cheeseburger, etc....
well, hope these ideas help! hang in there... it gets easier, it just takes time... it's easy to get discouraged, but keep your goals in mind... and exersize! even a little... start slow... but do it! it will help in so many ways!
keep checking in and let us know how you're doing!

Merry Jo, how bout posting a menu of what you are eating? Are you drinking the water amounts that flush the system and what type of exercise are you doing, often exercise in the beginning is stressful for our bodies and we tend to hold water to heal with...strange but true....that's another reason why we keep drinking it...plus if your body feels it's on a diet, it will automatically lower it's metabloism to conserve, so WAIT IT OUT!

            Re: Feel Like Quitting!!!

I think you're really limiting your food options. You can eat other things, you know. I think Jess had a great idea, posting a menu could really help you.
As for the cheese and heavy cream, are you sure you're staying within the legal limits? I know I've gone overboard sometimes. Are you using excessive salt? You can't gain fat in two days, sounds like water weight. There's something in your diet causing it, or it could be TOM (time of the month).
You also don't have a lot of weight to lose according to your siggy. People that have more weight to lose, lose faster.
No one can make you continue on this path, it's a decision that you have to make for yourself. I hope that you don't quit and reach your goal.

You can't base either success or failure on daily weigh-ins. It's fine to weigh every day (or more than that, if you're interested) but don't rely on what the scale says.

I posted on the "gaining measurements" thread an example of my daily weights last week. Today I'm back up to 212. Now, I know for sure that I haven't gained any fat. It's fluid, and I have absolutely no clue why. It doesn't matter why, anyway, because I cannot change the way my body handles this losing fat thing. It'll come off, and my official weight is still 209, because I'm absolutely keeping to the program and haven't cheated once.

Follow everyone's advice and try some new foods.

              I survived a two-month stall!

I'd be embarrassed to post my menu from the last 3 days. Trust me, it's not Atkins. Thanks for the response. I WILL NOT QUIT! I think I need to try some different foods. How do you eat lunchmeat and stuff, it all has some sugar in it. Do we just look at the carbs? When I went on induction at first, I was not losing at all and I figured out it was the bacon. Thanks for all your tips. Someone from MI asked where I live. I live in Fremont Twp. In between Peck/Yale and Croswell. North west of Port Huron.

                  Re: Feel Like Quitting!!!

Everyone has already posted such great advice. I suggest you take a breather and just relax. This is a WOL, not a crash diet. You can lose the weight but the process takes time.

I myself had a great induction but now I've started struggling through the rungs. Getting all crazy about it won't help me figure out how best to fix it and move past. If I were on a diet I'd get all nuts and say that it's not working for me and then I'd be trying to find a new diet--but this is a new lifestyle, which means I'm not giving up and I'm in it win lose or draw.

You can do it. Perhaps you've spent too much time in the induction phase and it's time to move up the rungs for you? If you're in extended induction, try moving up to rung 1 and see how that affects your limited food choices.

Also, are you eating too much Splenda/salt/cheese/meat, etc. Atkins is an eat til you are full type deal, but that's not to say that calories don't count altogether. If you are eating more calories than you burn off--you'll gain. I don't see how you could be gaining from 3 oz. of cheese a day, I don't think it's possible but I could be wrong.

You can do it. Post a menu and keep at it!

Packaged lunchmeat is a no no on induction. So are all processed meats like hot dogs.

I think the sliced stuff at the deli is fine though unless it's honey baked. Most of them have nutrition facts shown on the wrapper in the deli case.

                        Meena is right.

The best way I've found to avoid the additives and whatnot is to bake a turkey breast or beef roast or ham myself and slice it up. It's not only considerably cheaper, but I know everything that's gone into it and can season it or do what I want with it MY way. Really, it's not tough to throw one in the oven or roaster and go about your business for a couple of hours until it's time for it to come out.

You have to experiment with the turkey though. A lot of them (the fresh and frozen types) use additives that include stock and stock has flour in it. If you are sensitive (like I am) to flour then it might set you up for a binge. I skip the turkey meats altogether and stick to beef--and I don't eat pork so I wouldn't know much about what goes into one.

It is easier to throw one in the oven and then just slice it up as you need it. I have a large family so none goes to waste and my little ones gobble it in about a week.

Well, in the turkey department I'm lucky. I have a freezer full of fresh turkey breasts - I married a hunter. LOL But like everything else, you can buy organic at the store. Hams are typically injected with a sodium solution - but you do have to watch them for sugar. Grrr.

Dont quit!! I promise this gets easier to understand and do. Im on day 11 of Induction and have kept track of my daily menu's. I would be happy to share them with you. The only thing I actually made from recipe was tuna muffins and cauliflower Bisque (soup), which I found on this site. Do you have your Copy of DANDR or are you trying to learn this without the book? You gotta have the book, its only like 6.00 and a life saver. Have you taken your measuements? If not spend the 1.25 and buy a tape measure so you are actually able to add up those inches lost. Some people dont lose alot of pounds in Induction but they do lose inches. I eat 5 times a day and when Im hungry but I dont over do it. A key point is getting in your water intake-every day. My menu's are diverse, I have lots of different foods or I probably wouldnt make it through Induction. You can do this, take quit out of your vocabulary. We are women, strong women, with a mission, and we will conquer!!! Post here again and let us know your menu's and how you're feeling.
