  • Positive Self Talk Thread

    I just spent time with one of my students who was beating himself up over not being able to do something perfectly the first time I taught it to him. We worked on some self-talk to do when he starts to feel frustrated.

    And that's when it hit me: I'm REALLY good at encouraging others and recognizing their successes, but I'm less good (not awful, but not nearly as good) at doing the same for my own self. And since I am the only person who is with me 24/7, I should practice a bit.

    So this thread is for anyone and everyone to practice affirmations or say positive things about his/her personal journey.

    Today, I have the following to report to myself:

    1. I have almost lost 1/3 of the weight I need to lose to reach goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. OHMYGOD I'm a RUNNER!

    3. I've done an absolutely awesome job in the last month (start of school) with meal-planning.

    4. I look and feel a helluva lot better than I did 2 months ago.
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

    Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

    Hmm. Positive self talk is tough to do sometimes because the negatives are so much simpler and easier to believe. Isn't that sad?

    Here goes my positive self talk.

    1. I'm an exerciser! I never used to want to get off the couch and now I make a point to exercise everyday.

    2. I've lost weight! Ok, not as much as I'd like but hey, even if it's only a pound I'll take it.

    3. I feel good. I mean, I feel good about the journey I'm on and how I am adapting and adjusting to this WOE.

        I didn't join this October challenge because this is an especially tough thing for me to do but here goes ..........

        1. I have lost almost half the weight I want to lose to make my goal!!!!
        2. I LOVE to excercise and miss it terribly when I can't! (this is Huge)
        3. I am finding new confidnece in myself , enough in fact to post to this thread
        4. I know I will succeed at my goals and this WOL with absolutely no doubt.

          I tend to be a pessimistic person but here goes:

          I have begun my journey on Atkins and already lost 12 pounds.
          I no longer sabotoge my weight loss.
          I exersize a little more than I had been previously.
          I have hope of changing my life patterns to something more positive. I can do it!
          Starting weight 9/03/07 228
          9/28/07 weight 220
          next mini goal 210
          final weight 170
          height 5'7"
          age 55 and loving it!
