Seriously, don't laugh. Can I still lose weight without exercising? I was reading posts from today "Weds Roll Call", and it seems like everyone has the time. I do not even have enough time in a day to get everything done I need to. Many things don't get done, I realize that is okay. I had posted that I felt like quitting, I have become very sick of the food. Part of the problem is I don't have time to cook anything for myself. My youngest is special needs. That is only the tip of the iceberg. Anyone who knows me wonders how I do it. So tell me it's okay to skip the exercise and maybe start when things are a little more manageable around here.

    Thanks

    Re: No Exercise

Howdy! I can tell you my Mom lost 82 lbs on lc without exercise years back. She just physically can't do it. My best buddy lost 30 a few years ago without because she has bad FMS. So I guess it can be done. I think exercise is important but do what you can. If you can only eat properly so be it. Maybe somewhere down the line you'll get some exercise in but I sure wouldn't let it discourage you. Your plate sounds full. You are only 1 person. You just can't do more than you have time for. Hang in there!!!

My grandmother was on this diet and caring for her mother who had alzheimers at the same time. She did not have time for exercies since taking care of great gramma was a full time job with no breaks. She lost so much weight we started to think she was sick. but she was not. She said that she cannot control everything that goes on around her but she CAN control what she puts in her mouth. Its been something that has stuck with me and helped me in my weight loss. So when your life feels like it is spinning out of control remember what my gramma said and keep your spirits up. Look for new receipes, spice up your menu. You Can Do IT!

        Re: No Exercise

Merryjo - Exercise comes in many forms - it doesn't have to mean an aerobics class or a video tape.

The reality is that there will NEVER be time if you wait for it to come to you. You have to learn to incorporate YOU time and make it as non-negotiable as brushing your teeth every day. If that means you cut your TV time by 15 minutes and your internet time by 15 minutes, then that's what you do - but I guarantee you that there IS time available. It may not be convenient or comfortable, but there is time.

I shared a couple of things with you about my personal life, so I'm hoping you know that I do understand where you're coming from. Here is one of my favorite quotes of all time:

"Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo DaVinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein."

Sorta puts a whole different spin on perspective, eh?

Look, it takes effort. Every part of this takes effort. If all you can squeeze out today is 10 minutes, then use each and every one of those ten minutes. Can only squeeze in 5 minutes three or four separate times during the day - then take full advantage of each of those 5 minute sets and you've gotten 15-20 minutes of exercise and YOU time in. It *can* be done.

Cut the TV time. Cut the internet time. Do squats while you're on the phone. Do your crunches while you watch TV. Where there is a will, there is a way.

We're all crazy busy. Life is crazy busy. Throw kids, dogs, husbands, jobs, yard work in there and we're all . It just comes with the territory.

That said, people do lose weight without exercise. There are consequences to it..but they do do it.

Losing weight = look good in clothes.
Losing weight + exercise = Look good nekkid .
Looking like a deflated elephant never sounded all that attractive to me. What about you?

Just so you know, There is no time for even tv. I fall into bed at 10:00. But then again, I'm thinking I could squeeze 10 minutes of a walking in. I live in the country and it would be a very relaxing, scenic walk. That will be a small goal for 5 times a week.
Thanks to all of you. I took something away from each and every post.

I get very depressed and down on myself , if I miss a week of exercise.
            I feel great after.
I have to get the ball rolling more with being consistent in exercise.
There is nothing better than the good feeling you get after knowing you exercised and are proud of yourself.

I don't do purposeful exercise and never have. I do, however, walk my dogs extra long, take the stairs EVERYWHERE, park in the back of the parking lot, make extra trips upstairs. Even doing household chores can become exercise if you work it.

                Re: No Exercise

When I restarted I didn't exercise to any particular program. I considered housework exercise--you can do that. Vaccuming is exercise. Dusting is exercise. Washing dishes is exercise. Playing with kids is exercise. Laundry is exercise. Basically everytime you move your body, you are exercising. Even sitting quietly typing burns calories.

The trick is to get some benefits out of doing all those mundane tasks so you don't start sagging in all the wrong places. It is possible to lose without "traditional" type exercise. If you are really all that busy you are probably getting in more exercise than the rest of us!!

Just keep at it and it'll all fall into place. If you think too much about it, you'll get overwhelmed and give up. You're doing great!! Save the traditional type stuff until you're ready--you'll know when you are. It took me about a month before I was ready to join in on some challenges around here and now I look forward to my "ME" time with my exercises. It's only 20 to 30 minutes a day, but it's enough to change my mood and lift my spirits so I can continue doing the daily rounds of life.

Hey Maryjo, girl you sound like you are under a whole heap of pressure in your life. I cared for a dying mother, and felt I had no life, because truthfully I did not have a life for a while there....the responsibilities are huge. Having said that, Dr Atkins says it's non-negotiable, exercise is a must. But look at all the different forms activity takes, as each of these gals have stated.
You cannot be successful at Atkins without devoting time to planning and executing the basics, of food choices, water intake and exercise....
You sound like an amazing woman, with little time to herself due to her committments in life. My hat's off to you... consider our words...with an open mind you can find a few minutes to refresh yourself with.
You have to make time to be successful with almost all diets and eating plans, give this one a chance, give it some time.

MerryJo - I totally understand your situation, however, I will say this.. if you are not taking care of yourself properly, then you will not be any good to others if you run yourself down. Is there anyone who can step in for you for 15 minutes a day to go for that walk?

Use two cans of soup/veggies whatever, get in some curls, arm lifts etc. Squat while waiting for food to heat up, lunge, when going for the stove or fridge, standing for a time? lift up those toes and get in some calf work...

In any event, while you work out what you can workout...getting into your WOE is the best thing you can do for yourself and I applaud you for that!!!

You can certainly get in exercise without having a lot of time. When you are talking on the phone do lunges, or squats or simply just walk around your house at a brisk pace...When vacuuming, hustle! There is a lot you can do without a lot of time you just have to be creative

Merry jo, as much as exercise is a pain on many levels, it's also a major reason I am here today, endorphines and the appetite surpressant have just absolutely kept me going....Now I exercise at a very high level for me, but in the beginning, 15mins was just a very very long time!
