When I first tried the Atkins diet I was 5 years younger and about 60 lbs over weight. I couldn't Sleep because my snoring and sleep apnea (spelling), I would come home after work and nap for 45 minutes, my blood sugar levels were all over the place, I would feel weak and my hands would shake if I didn't eat every 4 hours. **GROSS PART** Between the diareha and the constapation I had constant bleeding hemmorids. Constant back pain, constantly extreemly sleepy, no energy even with a double shot of espresso. I had heard good things about Atkins and after about 3 months of thinking about it, I decided to try it.
I have to admit that the first 5 days were pretty tough, mostly because of the induction flu. But once I got past that part things that plagued me in the past were begining to disappear. I felt better than I had in a long, long time. I lost 20 lbs. within a month and then the mind games began. Some gremlin had taken up residence in the back of my mind and began to make decisions for the part of my mind previously used for better judgment. Evidently that part of my brain went on some sort of vacation, or was being held captive by this gremlin because I began to make odd.....really odd choices concerning the food I would eat even though I had read the Atkisn book twice. Suddenly, a package of cotton candy with 12 grams of carbs was acceptable. 12 carbs......"that still leaves me enough to have a pancake for breakfast". The really funny part is I never ate this way before the diet. Well, I SOMEHOW gained all the weight back plus more, Go figure.
This is the 3rd time on Atkins for me and the first thing I noticed while reading the book again was that I was agahst at how much information the gremlin had blacked out of the book the first and second time. Well, the gremlin is decesed and my brain is back from wherever it was and like a benevolent dictator is guiding me to a place of health.
