  • Sugar Free Pudding?

I was just in the little recipe thread and noticed Meena and someone else had sugarfree pudding in theirs......HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOO! Sugarfree pudding is ok?! Doesn't it still have high carbs? (No, I'm not in induction and I want to venture out into funland, so some carbs are OK with me)

Just wanted to find out the story on that. Might need to get the kids out of bed so I can go to the store right now (just kidding)

    Check the label.
I know its not okay on induction.
    Depends on your serving size:
    http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/19288.html 20g carbs in 113g serving or
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/19275.html 8g carbs in instant powder.
I don't know if you can make it with water, so there will carbs in cream too.

there is also cornstarch in the powder mix... or at least in the ones that my mom has - Jell-o sugar free/fat free cook & serve.
I would rather struggle to do this, than struggle with the fact that I can't...

I divide mine into 8 servings and I was on dairy at the time. That is definately not a good recipe for induction. Also, when I had that dessert I counted it toward my splenda limit (meaning no splenda in my morning java) and WATCHED FOR BINGE ISSUES. Can't stress that one enough.

It never gave me a problem but that doesn't mean it won't affect you--or me for that matter, because this time on dairy I stalled. Last time I did Atkins I used that same recipe and was fine.

        Results may vary.

The jello sugar free pudding mix I use has 8g carbs per serving. You'll need to do the math to add carbs from whatever type of milk or cream you use with it to get the final carb count of your dessert. However, a normal glass of milk is 6g per 1/2 cup putting regular pudding mixes at about 41g per serving!

Some of the puddings I believe have modified food starch which can come from corn but not everyone who lowcarbs has issues with corn. Dr. Atkins never said that we need to stay away from corn for the rest of our lives--just until we get to the higher rungs and test the waters to see if it stalls us or causes a binge. I've used cornstarch before and never had an issue with it causing a stall or a binge attack. (The stall this last time was all about the yogurt).

As with all things in life--the recipe I posted is a trial and error deal. If you try it and enjoy it and it doesn't cause you any issues than that means sugar free pudding is on the menu.

Also, it's important to mention that the dessert is not something that should be enjoyed every night. I had it all of one time since I've been back on Atkins.

Who me? Have it every night? Never! OK, really....it's just good to have some more treat options. I'm going to give it a try.

lol baby--you crack me up. I was chatting with brook in the chat room the other day (she really is amazing btw) and she said something that made a ton of sense. She said that it generally takes a while (more than a few times) to intro a new food to see if it causes issues--and when you see something off you need to become a sort of detective removing food A while eating B and C. You keep at it rotating foods until you find the culprit.

I wish I'd talked to her sooner!! lol, I would've figured the yogurt a lot quicker. Keep that in mind when you try that recipe. ;-)
