  • I feel off the skinny wagon

Im waking up this morning and feeling like I totally screwed up. Yesterday I woke up, knew I wanted to spend the day lounging and watching movies. For some dumb reason I was okay with going over my 20 carbs as long as I stayed with induction foods. Well, its a new morning, and I plugged my food list from yesterday into Fitday. Im not happy with myself, at all. My digestable carb count was 32 grams and my fat percentage was 70%. This is what I had:

    bacon 2 oz
    3 fried eggs
    4 cups romaine
    5 tbsp blue cheese dressing
    1/3 cup blue cheese crumbled
    pumpkin 1/2 cup
    Butter 1.25 tbsp
    1 tbsp heavy cream
1 Kosher beef frank (1 carb)
    9 oz Tofu
    1 egg
    3/4 cup parmesean cheese (dry)
    1 tbsp Mayonaise
    5 chicken wings
    3 oz tomatoe sliced
    3 tbsp 1 carb ketchup
    1 pack splenda TOTAL=32 CARBS

Im pms'ing right now I think but Im not sure thats why I did it. To top it all off, I drank only 32 oz of water, if that. What bothers me is that I woke up knowing I was gonna go over my carb limit. Somehow, a movie day was just not gonna be enough unless I had munchies all day long. Since Sept 19, I have done so good. Ive tried in the last week to see if I could get set my menu's to get exactly 20 carbs so that when I added another 5 carbs I would have an accurate picture of how those extra carbs affected my weight loss. I had been going between 10-15 carbs. Now Im pretty sure I need to start induction over, strict induction, because I know I have to be out of ketosis. I guess I should be glad that I didnt fix a plate of spaghetti and garlic bread, but it doesnt make me feel any better. Saturday I was worried because I had only gotten in 10 carbs and 1100 calories but I just wasnt hungry. I dont expect to always be perfect but I dont want to be screwing up like this either. Will I be back in ketosis after today if my menu includes 16 carbs and 1530 calories. Or will it take me 3 full days to go back into ketosis? My percentages for today are Fat 67%-Carbs 4%-Protein 29%. Im gonna get focused again, and stop making excuses for my screw ups.

Hot dogs are a no no on Atkins--just to let you know for the future.

Did you add the egg and the wings in your fitday stats? I wouldn't because Atkins says we can have these in unlimited amounts--so the carbs from them don't count.

I don't think so. Everything that goes in your mouth gets counted!

Are the hot dogs okay if it was a 1 carb, no filler, kosher hot dog? Also, i thought you could eat all the eggs you wanted, as long as you didnt go over the 20 carb limit. Now im confused. If I take the 4 eggs off, that puts it at 28 carbs. Still bad, dang, I want back in ketosis right now

Did you check to make sure your not in ketosis? I think that you were alot better off going a little over in carbs with all legal foods instead of junk. I'd try not to worry about it and just continue where you were.

Ok girl, let's step back here, the real goal is being on Atkins this time next month, being in ketosis....continuing onward and doing well.

First off, lets not go backwards and start over. Let's keep moving forward. Let's also look at at what yesterday was, "movie day" and that probably is a trigger for you to eat. It is for me. So, maybe we put new rules on movie day, by planning food out in detail for movie day, you can have your favorites, but make a sensible plan and do not deviate from it...
Maybe you find another form of leisure if movie day is too much to handle right now.
I know I didn't go out to the movies because it triggered eating popcorn and butter....
Drink alot of water today, and go right back onward with induction where you are. Consider moving toward the OWL, and the rungs.
Where is your exericse these days, using exercise can be very refreshing....

What I want to say most of all is you need to keep moving forward, we all seem to want to go back and start again....we are afraid if we let this go and not make a big deal, eventually we'll drop off and do it again.....so we send ourselves back to the beginning.
Pick your head up, shoulders back, look out at this great week, and plan your meals and healthy exercise and feel the power return, go after it, keep moving forward, set some goals for the month that are meaningful, try on a pair of pants you can almost get into, put them where you can be motivated by them each day, make them your goal....plan a number of minutes or miles to accumulate via exericse....
Get up and outside when you can fall is wonderful! You will feel energized and this will just be a blip on the calendar....Look at my pictures, this is how I did it and why I am still here, I dealt with my triggers and kept moving...learning and creating new ways of getting through! You can do this too.

Re: I feel off the skinny wagon

Honestly, I walked 4 days that first week, and then made excuses for the next week and a half. This is crap, I know it, this is all about me and getting serious-about the food, about the water, about the exercise. I know I can do this. I think Im pretty devasted that the chantix Im taking to stop smoking is not doing anything. I called the physican at Pfizer and they said it could take a month, and well, I coming up on a month, and ..............nothing. Im the only person I know of who is getting no effect from it. Im pretty upset about it, in fact Im mad. I think I figure, If I cant be the perfect woman, 20 carbs, 96 oz water, exercise daily, and NO CIGARETTES, then Im a failure. I have to stop thinking like this, I know it. At least 2 1/2 weeks ago, I was walking briskly 1.3 miles even though I was smoking. Now, Im sitting on my fat butt being lazy and brooding. But Im so mad, I want the chantix to kick in so bad. This is the biggest freakin goal I have ever ever made. **** I havent even gone 24 hours yet without a cigarette, **** I aint even gove 8 hours or 10 hours, much less 24. If I could have anything for Christmas, even over the weight loss, I would choose to hate cigarettes. Thats all. I feel like even though Im planning meals and watching my carb count and reading the book, the cigarettes keep me from being a success. Please, for all you smokers, dont take offense to what Im about to say, please. But I dont know very many successful people who are smokers. I just dont. Sorry about the negativity this morning, I jus wish I could be like my mentors who are here and finding health, totally.

Just because I don't want to type forever, this is hot off the presses fromthe Atkins site:

These are the foods you may eat liberally during Induction:

                  All fish,
                  including ...
                  All fowl,
                  including ...
                  All shellfish,
                  including ...
                  All meat,
                  including ...
                  All eggs,
                  including ...
                  tuna
                  chicken
                  oysters*
                  beef
                  scrambled
                  salmon turkey mussels*
pork friedsole duck duck lamb poachedtrout goose clams bacon**soft-boiledflounder Cornish hensquid veal hard-boiledsardines quail shrimp ham**
                  deviledherring pheasant crabmeat venison omelets

Notice the word--liberally? That's why I don't put these foods into fitday. They throw off the counts for the other foods that I need to keep in check.

About the hot doggie--I used to eat these by the package btw:

"**Processed meats, such as ham, bacon, pepperoni, salami, hot dogs and other luncheon meats—and some fish—may be cured with added sugar and will contribute carbs. Try to avoid meat and fish products cured with nitrates, which are known carcinogens. Also beware of products that are not exclusively meat, fish or fowl, such as imitation fish, meatloaf and breaded foods. Finally, do not consume more than four ounces of organ meats a day."

I currently do not know of any brand of hot dog that does NOT have nitrates in them. If you know of one--please pass it along!! I miss hot dogs but not the nitrates.

This is what the Hebrew National Beef franks have in them, and yes they have some nitrates but no fillers.

Beef, water (contains 2% or less of flavorings), garlic powder, hydrolyzed soy protein, paprika, potassium and sodium lactate, salt, sodium diacetate, nitrates, spices

                          Tulsa,
First, trying to make too many changes at once will doom you to failure on all of them. Instead of trying to do it all, why not commit to making one change per month. Like october you concentrate on getting your menu in check, then november water, then December exercise, then january smoking. They say it takes 30 days to make a new habit. Also, i really would like to recommend "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. I think i already have in the addictions thread you started about Chantix, but seriously. I have gotten 10 people to quit using that book and if i could i would buy a million copies to give them away. i cannot recommend it highly enough. Give it a shot

Re: I feel off the skinny wagon

                            Ok......

                            1. Everything you put in your mouth counts. You may not count the CARBS from eggs, but you still plug them into fitday. They help you keep track of fat and protein.

                            2. hot dogs are ok in moderation.

                            3. I don't know why people keep thinking they should have exactly 20 grams of carbs. 20 is the MAXIMUM allowed on induction. It's not something you aim for. It's the LIMIT.

                            4. Eating exactly 20 grams of carbs, or having exactly the percentages that are in the Atkins books is NOT the "perfect" induction. The more fat you eat, the faster you lose. I tend to be in the mid-seventees in terms of fat, always have been. So have lots of people.

                            5. TUlsa, you need to move to rung 1 of OWL. Don't wait until you have achieved some mythological perfect zone. Just add 5 grams of veggies to your menu. NOW.

Good grief, guys! We aren't trying to send people to the moon, here. We're creating a new relationship with food and embarking on a new way of living. It's not an exact science that will fall apart if we deviate by 5 carbs of veggies, or 3% points of fat.

As far as the fitday thing---perhaps I worded wrong??? I do that a lot. I meant the CARBS for the egg and the wings don't count. I don't use fitday unless I stall so I forgot the percent thing. Sowwy.

As far as moving up the rungs, I think it's a great idea. Keep looking ahead of you and eventually all this stuff will be like second nature.
