  • First Cheat in almost 5 Months, HELP!

    i need support!!

    i am VERY disconcerted today, because last night i had my first cheat in almost 5 months!! my boss had me to her house for dinner, a very small, very exclusive gathering of people, which already had my guard up because everyone sees what you do and don't eat at the dinner table.

    everyone at works knows i have been following this way of eating, and literally their words were 'you have done such a good job and have been working so hard, so we thought we'd give you a treat with a day off for your birthday!!'. so as a special surprise because it was MY birthday, they actually had one of the top resort chefs in the state come over and make the dinner----and SPECIFICALLY the chocolate lava cake for dessert !!

    it was just too awkward to not eat it...my boss's house, one of the best chefs in the city, and everyone singing happy birthday, and all attention on me. the thing is, i didn't even WANT to eat it! i had PLENTY of willpower! but i thought it would be offensive and career suicide to make big deal of declining it.

    anyway, the rest of the dinner was fish, steak, veggies, and i did have one forkful of cantaloupe and one forkful of melon, even though i am not on that rung, as well as one or two forkfuls of polenta (sort of like grits). i hated every minute of it, because i could resist the food, but not the pressure of the situation.

    DID I RUIN EVERYTHING??? I have been so good about being cheat free, and now I am having a miserable birthday. Although somehow I am down 2 pounds???? Need support!!!

    First of all Happy Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!!! Secondly Five months and no cheats is Awesome!!!!!!! So with that said do not sit around and beat yourself up over this .......... it was an awkward situation and you did the best you could with it ........ it's done! So pick yourself up get right back on track and don't allow this one moment to break your stride!!!!!!!!!

      Happy b-day first of all. Secondly, we are all human and mistakes are GOING to happen. You should be so proud of yourself for going five whole months with no cheats. WOW!!! Good job. You were feeling a lot of pressure and in a difficult akward situation. It's not the end of the world. Just realize that you had a cheat, and make sure next time you are prepared for that. Maybe start talking with the people around you and make them aware of your atkins way of life and what your goals are. You are doing amazing on your weight loss, pick yourself back up and keep on truckin!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! Hugs

        what are you supposed to do if you have a cheat? go back to induction for 3 days? i think that is what i remember...althought i am only on the veggie rung as it is.

          Happy Birthday!

          I understand exactly what happened. That was a bit of pressure for you and I probably would have done the same thing.

          In my job as a food broker we have regional managers come to town every once in awhile and they take you out to fancy dinners and try to make you taste everything- including dessert and expensive wine. I have been down that road many times trying to plead out but they can be very insistant and I always fold.

          In fact I am always stressed out about the dinners because it is 2-3 days of eating this crap.... Next time I will go back to induction for a few days or tell them I am a diabetic and I REALLY can't

          I will tell you to use the apple pie hangover cure that I gave Meena earlier. Eat a high fat diet and drinks extra water to flush your system.

            This is one bad thing about this diet and this board. People are made to feel like this and it just breaks my heart. This is real life, people! One day out of your life. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and move on. There are many things I could get upset or depressed about. Breaking my diet occassonally is not going to be one of them.

              Hey Party, Happy Birthday to you hon. Looks as though you found yourself between a rock and a hard place, ha. Sorry that happened to you. Yes, I would return to induction for four days to allow your body to detox from the sugar and of any other toxins. Drink lots and lots of water to flush your system, then return to the rung you are in now.

                I think you should just stay on the veggie rung an extra week.

                You'll be fine! YOu may not even have come out of ketosis.

                  Just move forward, refocus and go back to exactly how you were doing things, keep up the water and exercise...watch out for sudden urges for more sugars and carbs, and if that happens, pick up some L-Glutamine powder and put a heaping teaspoon in a glass of crystal light....and drink it down twice a day. It reduces cravings for sure...
                  Plus helps muscle recovery...
                  I PM'd you the same information.... you're gonna be ok, there is a huge difference in what you went through and dilberate binging with intent! Both are extrememly upsetting, but I think going back to your daily successful routine should be all you need to do...
                  Now I don't want to find you've run 10miles or something crazy! Don't over reaction, just calmly get back in step....thinking longevity lifestyle, onward, calm forward progress!
