  • it's me again

I have been lurking these boards for about a year.I have tried atkins on several attemps.the first was great.I fell off the wagon and have been trying to get back on ever since. It seems that i cannot get through the induction. Not becuase of food issues but becuase of induction flu issues. It seems to last forever. My last attempt on was on day 9 of induction and still felt very ill.I got frustrated and thought i should not feel that horrible for that long. Can someone please give me some advice on how to overcome this. The first time i did atkins it only lasted about 5-7 days and after that i felt awesom.I should of never fell of the wagon huh!!Cuase now i am having a hard time.

    b's,

I'm fortunate...never really had the induction flu. But I've seen a lot of posts on it and the general advice is to keep Tylenol handy. I'm sure more experienced people will jump in and help you out.

I just wanted you to know that I'm here to help and encourage in any way I can. That's what this board is all about!

I never had the flue untill this last time. I know excatly how you are feeling. Take tylenol or motrin, drink lots of fluid and eat often.

I found that by eating several small meals I felt a lot better. I think one of the reasons for feeling ill was not having anything in my tummy so eating a deviled egg, piece of cheese & sausage, (anything legal) made a big difference.

I had the flue for the entire 2 weeks and stayed on induction for a few more weeks or at least until I started eating about 4-5 times a day small dense meals.

I hope you start feeling better soon

I've also found that keeping my water intake up and small frequent meals helps this. If you are unable to tolerate it, maybe you could add in a bit more carbs from rung 1 to help with that?

Can you post a typical menu so we can see what you are eating?

yes post a menu, maybe we could see something in it that might be a clue as to why your flu is lasting so long.

Could you post a typical menu for the times you have tried to stay on it? This would help us in helping you along through it this time.

                Re: it's me again

I had induction flu also but not as bad as you are experiencing it. I did a few things that helped most legal a couple were not. First I tried to eat not long after I got up in the mornings and every 3 hours just small meals so it keep my blood sugar steady. I tried to drink enough water. I exercised pretty much everyday that helped alot. I know part of my problem was severe caffeine withdrawal so I would drink a cup of green tea sweetened with splenda 3 times a day. I know thats not legal but it made the difference between me making it through induction or giving up. I would get caffeine withdrawal headaches so bad I could hardly stand it. The bad thing about caffeine headaches is tylenol or motrin is just not going to help them. The green tea was just enough to take the edge off for me and I was able to make it through induction and work on lowering my caffeine even futher.

ok here would be a typical induction day

breakmlet with peppers and 1 oz of cheese 1 cup of coffee with 1 tbls cream

lunch:chicken breast with a cup or two of lettuce and 1/4 cup cucomber or tomato

snack a cheese stick or pumpkin or pepperoni

dinner: a meat with another salad and usually spinach or green beans

and i drink tons of water during the day. i do fry my meat and eggs in olive oil or butter or sometimes both.

                      Re: it's me again

                      That menu looks pretty good.

Have you tried drinking hot tea (herbal) throughout the day? And definately take 4 ibuprofin or tylenol when you wake up, and at least once more during the day. I'd do it every 4 hours as long as I felt like crap.

Another thing that might help, if you have access to one, is a long soak in a jacuzzi at night.

No matter what you try, just keep reminding yourself that this is your body withdrawing from sugar carbs. And that you never, ever want to go thru this again!

Keep posting regularly during the day if you can. Someone is always here to support you.
