  • One Golden Shot...

Has anyone heard of this and if so what is your opinion? See, I'm starting week two of induction and only lost 4 lbs. now if I was someone who had less than 50lbs to lose I would think that's great! However, I have 125lbs to lose to get to my ULTIMATE goal so 4lbs in one week is a little disappointing. I mean the first time around many years ago I lost 15lbs during induction, the bulk lost in the first week. This time around my first week wasn't so dazzling and I'm wondering if it's the "one golden shot" rule. Maybe it's because I was 30 then and now I'm passing my mid 30's? And the funny thing is last time I ate things that weren't as healthy for me, I ate lots and lots of cheese, nuts, pork rinds, I'd order a pizza and eat all the toppings off, hotdogs and tons of diet soda and crystal light. Now I do a full week clean, no diet soda, no hotdogs, pizza toppings or crystal light. Tons of water and getting all my carbs from good veggies! I didn't cheat once even in the face of tempation that hit twice this week: Once at work when I was staring down TWENTY FIVE bags of candy bars spread out all over the lounge and lunch room and the other when I was sitting next to my son in the movies while he was munching on my favy, popcorn with butter! But I didn't cave! So I just wanted to hear opinions on doing this woe the second time around. Btw, I want to say that I'm not discouraged and am going to keep on keeping on. I feel good and even a bit "thinner" so I'm definately not giving up!

As we age our metabolism does slow down, but it is still possible to lose and reach your goal. We all lose at different speeds, and the fact that you are feeling good and looking for a solution rather than giving up is great.

Are you measuring? Have you lost any inches? Are you exercising? Exercise boosts the metabolism and gets things moving better. Are you taking any medications? Have you posted a menu in the REVIEW MY MENU forum? It is common after the first loss for a slow down in weight loss.

Drink more water, exercise and keep going. It will happen if you keep on the program and don't let the scale determine your mood. Get active with some of the challenges on the board, post often and make friends with others who are making it happen. Keep a good attitude and post often so you can get support and encouragement from others on the board.

I, too, used to worry about this. The second time I did the woe (this is my third really committed time, i.e. more than 3 days) I lost hardly anything during the first three weeks - just a few lbs, in fact, whereas in the first go-round I lost 15 lbs in the first two weeks.

However, my fears were not justified. First of all, I lost a TON of inches in the first three weeks. I mean, a ton. Secondly, after the first few weeks, I started losing about 4 lbs a week, sometimes just 3, but really began to lose quite quickly.

This time around, I lost very quickly in the first two weeks, and have settled down to a comfortable rate of loss.

In my opinion, there is no "one golden shot". Our bodies aren't that silly.
      Start date: 7/29/2007

      Scale: SW:235 CW:193
      GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

      Mini goals:
      215 - met 9/10/07
      205 - met 10/17/07
      195 - met 2/20/08
      180

      I survived a two-month stall!

The whole point of induction is not to see how much weight you can drop in two weeks. Induction is there to jump start our bodies into fat burners. How quickly you burn that fat is all up to your metabolic resistance. The more you lose, the lower your resistance is--the more carbs you can eat once you get to OWL. People who don't lose at all (and I think I saw one in 14 day induction) are the most resistant.

Get into DANDR and reread chapter 13. Dr Atkins says people with a high metabolic resistance (like you may have) actually benefit from staying on induction longer because it gives you more time to correct those imbalances you might have developed over time. Once they get fixed, weight loss usually speeds up!!

Based on this, I really don't think age has anything to do with how quickly we lose. Our bad dieting is to blame.
