Since i stopped smoking at the first of the week and reading the posts here today has motivated me to go ahead and re-start back on atkins diet right now... I was on atkins back in 2005 and lost around around 45 lbs. so i know i can do it. Ive got to go grocery shopping tonight as i only have canned chicken and tuna and cheddar cheese...everything else is not induction acceptable, and hopefully i will be giving that food away. I do have eggs and bacon but they have been in the frig several months...are they still good? My biggest hurdles are eating vegetables and exercising. I had the same problems before when i was on atkins but still managed to lose, but i want to do it right this time, and maybe join some challenges to help me out.....

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Welcome back Todd. And congrats on losing the 'evil weed'. I've been smoke free for a little over 7 years now; can't believe I ever did it! It's TOUGH...to me it was way tougher than being diligent with an eating lifestyle change.
So good luck...we're all here for you.

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Congrats todd on being smoke free woohoo what an accomplishment. I also quit just over 7 years ago. I can't believe how much better I feel since I quit. It sure is nice to wake up every morning and not cough my head off. I'm looking foward to see you in a few challanges.

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Smoking was very tough to quit. I still get tempted but im determined to stay off cigarettes. Quitting was so tough, i had to use the nicotine gum. Ive been off the gum since monday when i ran out of gum, so Im using that date as my official quit date. I was hoping some of that determination will help me to stay true to induction, but i have cheated. Hopefully tommorrow will be a clean sweepRestarting Atkins April 9th 2010

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Welcome Todd! I would try today again to stay on induction. It's tough - and I cook for my italian family! Just plan ahead - keep snacks available (that helped me a lot) even if it's a cheese stick or something easy like that.
Next thing - how are you cheating? Having the bun with the burger? Or something more involved - like eating candy?
Make it easy for yourself by loading up on legal foods - and then stay determined
You can do it!

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Hey Todd, good morning, yep you've got to get the right foods in and then stick to them...Your body lost 45 lbs last time, which means you really do well on a ketogenic diet like Atkins...Remember to get the book out and get motivated reading how it works, and why it works. You flip that metabolism switch and go from burning carbs to burning up your stored fat as fuel....Ketosis is the thing that induction firmly takes you too, and it allows your to energize and it diminishes your appetite. It's imparative that you flip that switch and get into ketosis.....can't do it on cookies, but oh how we wish we could!74 8/1/06

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Todd- Welcome to STAC'ers.
Throw the cookies out and take out the trash immediately
Stay on Induction until you get it right. You will be amazed how fast 2 weeks will go by.
Seriously- put together a shopping list and get to the market. Load up on induction safe foods. Make sure you eat every 4 hours or so (even if you are not hungry) your body will tell the mind that you are satisfied and the cravings will go away faster.
Good Luck!
Julie

Re: Newby ....... 2nd time around
Lunch and supper went good. For lunch i had a salad with lettuce, celery, tomatoes and and cucumbers with ranch dressing. For supper had 2 beef patties cooked in a george foreman grill with a tomatoe slice. So far i have had about 17 carbs for the day. The only thing is ive been having sugar cravings for the last hour....I got my 64 oz water plus in. I have the book, and have read up on the induction rules last week.... i wrote out the acceptable foods for induction and put it where i can easily find it.Restarting Atkins April 9th 2010
