  • Graduation Day Blues

OK my college graduation is 22 days away and i really really really want to be in the 170's on that day....i'm 189.5 this morning and i'm so afraid i won't make it!!! i have been waiting for this day for 13 years!!! ( i had to quit school the first time around due to some poor decisions on my part, then went to another college and got my assoc in early childhood ed, then went back to the original univ. to finish my BA in psychology!! FINALLY!!!!) it would be nice to be able to celebrate 2 goals. it seems as if everyone on here have met many goals...has anyone ever missed a goal? how did you deal with it? maybe i'm setting myself up for failure by putting a date on my weight loss??? GRRRRR!!!!!

    Re: Graduation Day Blues

    Hi Niko,

I had exactly this goal before I did the Atkins diet - I ran, I did weight watchers and lost hardly any weight and looked huge in my photo. I was really gutted. Then about 3 months later I started Atkins and have lost a fair bit of weight since then. So, what I'm saying is, even if you don't get to your graduation goal, you can still do it afterwards and you'll still have 2 great acheivements - you BA (Congrats ) and fantastic weight loss.

BUT you're on the right track, you've already lost some weight and more time to lose more - so go for it, eat and exercise like a saint and see how close you can get! You could consider following Chapter 18 of DANDR 'A Regimen to Jump-Start Weight Loss' which is for this kind of situation.

The other thing I wanted to say is that goals are great as a tool for weight loss, but it is really important that if you don't reach that goal you carry on anyway. I think it is easy to get disheartened, and slacken off or give up if you are where you wanted to be by a certain time. So whilst being X amount by X time is a great way of working hard at losing weight, it is not the main event - permanent healthy weight loss and maintanence is.

Having said that good luck for the graduation and congrats
