Good morning NEWBIES, this is so exciting to have so many of you coming to STAC. 2008 is gonna be great!
WHAT A LOT OF US HAVE LEARNED THE HARD WAY:
* You CANT "sorta" do this diet
*It's NOT a diet, it's a lifestyle
*It's ketogenic, if you eat low carb, you flip the switch and burn your fat. If you over eat carbs, you flip the switch BACK and store fat!
*The tape measure is YOUR BEST FRIEND, it shows real progress!
*Planning is everything
*Water makes a huge difference with appetite, filling you up and illiminating burned up fat
*Exercise is NOT AN OPTION, even a walk will make a huge difference in the early stages. Exercise releases endorphines which will elevate the mood!
* The DANDR book is to be visited often!
In my experience of doing Atkins and making it a lifestyle. I confronted very bad behaviors, addictive behaviors and I sought real change, not TEMPORARY change. Yes I wanted to loose weight, but mostly I wanted to feel better. Mostly I was craving freedom from living in a food cycle.
Atkins and ketosis released me from addictive behaviors....not INSTANTLY but over the course of the year, I slowly no longer had to battle constantly.
The biggest thing I did was PLAN, plan each meal, and never ever ever left home without a snack, and a plan for the next meal. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN and STICK TO THE PLAN!
For a season, I avoided favorite haunts, resturants I could not say no to.
I gently avoided friends who loved a good basket of chips and a cold beer or two. I could not say no there. AVOID THEM AT FIRST
I ate great foods that I love in the beginning, shrimp and steak, green olives things that are just lush and rich! EAT, ENJOY and STOP! When you are full.
I exercised for 15 mins the first week, daily. I made sure to get it done before I could talk myself out of it. Even if I had to get up at 4:30, I did it. EXERCISE DAILY, SLOWLY BUILDING UP ENDURANCE. Take a rest day too.
READ DANDR, Knowledge is power, KNOW "WHY" you are using this plan. KNOW what Ketosis is, and how valuable it is. Understand insulin, and follow the rules of each phase.
Slowly I started to feel better, I lost weight, and I had created a daily routine I could manage and sustain. I also came here constantly and surrounded myself with uplifting successful people.
I KNOW you want it real bad! You have to change what you are doing to get it. That is the truth. You cannot do the same thing and expect different results. It just will NOT happen. You can't start, stop, start again after....
and expect to make progress!
Your body is going to have to be trusted, it's going to get confused and after an initial weightloss, it will try to hold on to weight. Don't freak out, put your focus on what you are doing, and let the numbers take care of themselves....Use that tape measure and make sure you get a good baseline measurements...Because when you burn fat, your body melts.
Alot of this is my truth, others can relate and agree. Others might have taken a different route within the same perimeters of the diet and way of eating. This is just the beginning! There is so much you can do here...Wait til the energy of ketosis kicks in! Wait til you have to buy clothes. Wait til you sleep through the night like a baby and have energy in the middle of the afternoon...It's all true, but YOU must CHANGE your behaviors to get this.
Welcome to STAC!
