  • Is that even possible???

OK, so I lost 65 pounds on a modified atkins last year (can't give up coffee). Only 18 pounds shy of my goal weight. My cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure all returned to healthy levels. I was walking 2 - 3 miles 3 or 4 times a week. I was feeling healthy and feeling good. A total turn around from a year prior.

I was stuck on a plateau for several months anyway, so I decided to reward my hard work and cheat from about mid-November through December. Boy did I cheat! I was crazy and out of control. I didn't bother to check my weight during that time, and somehow, I gained 33 pounds in 45 days! Is that even possible? Is most of that water weight, or did I really gain an average of a pound every 36 hours??? I planned on gaining 10 pounds or so, but 33???

Anyway, back on the diet again. Hoping that I can get back to where I was in mid-november by the end of the month. Going to start from scratch again, from induction. Guess I get to go through induction flu and carb detox again.

Something tells me I didn't think this through very well...

Drinking coffee while on Atkins doesn't make it "modified". You did Atkins and lost all but 18 lbs.

Then you gained most of it back. Yes, it's possible to regain that much, that fast, though probably a lot of it is fluid.

I started a stall right around Halloween and have been there ever since. You make me realize that it was a good idea not to cheat, no matter how frustrating. What I'm doing is going back on induction - today was day 1. If figure that if I go all the way back to the beginning, maybe my body will be shocked into losing again. So join me, and we'll muddle through!

      180

      I survived a two-month stall!

When we take carbs in they make us retain water. For 1gm of glycogen stored in our muscles, we also store 2.6gm of water along with it, according to my fitness Textbook. So, As evermind says, there is alot of water in that weight...not all of it is pure fat most likely.
I am sure the lessons you have shared are ones you don't want to repeat...Welcome back!

The majority of that - I'd figure at least 2 thirds, is water. If you are going back to Atkins you can lose the majority of that water weight very quickly. PM me if you like and I can give you some tips.

Congradulations on the initial weight loss by the way.

Yes its possible! Eating and lack of exercise over the holidays will pack the pounds right back on. I agree that some of it is probably water.

                Glad to have you back!!

                  Re: Is that even possible???

Thanks for all the comments. I think alot of it must be water weight. I have already lost 13 of those 33 pounds in 5 days. I started induction again, started walking again, and have been losing tons of weight really fast.

                  Thanks again.
