Re: Well, I'm getting really upset now

    Thanks, everyone!

I haven't had pumpkin in 3 days, and I will avoid it for the rest of this two-week (re)induction. I think I had cocoa on Thursday, but I will also cut that out. Doubtful that either one is the problem, given that I've always had them, though I understand that sometimes we can develop an intolerance. The thing is, I didn't have any pumpkin from December 21 New Years Day, so that seems not to be an issue.

I will go back and check my fitday and figure out the total amount of calories I'm supposed to eat. I know it's nowhere NEAR 2800. But it's been awhile since I recalculated.

Please keep up the support, as I really need it now. And no, it's not pms - TOM left about a week ago! lol. It's truly just utterly frustrating to not only not have lost since Halloween-ish, but to have suddenly gained 6 lbs!

Re: Well, I'm getting really upset now

I am sorry for what you are going through, I haven't hit a stall yet but the idea is terrifying. I am not a bit surprised at your frustration and anger.

I've looked at your posts here and have read them very carefully, and I honestly think you are eating too little.

I took the time to put your menus into my Fitday, with variations as you detail. Now I know I don't have actual weights, but it's hard to get it much over about 1200 calories, and even if I am way out on the things you don't give exact amounts for I can't see how it would be as high as you are getting - are you sure you are not building in a margin for error in case of eating too much and ending up with an error of eating too little?

You have calculated your BMR as 1600. But that is just what you need to actually function, even walking down the stairs in the morning takes you over that. And you have been doing a LOT of exercise, probably have gradually built up muscle which uses more calories than fat and are probably in need of a LOT more than that.

In addition your protein levels seem very low. Given the amount of exercise you are doing, I think it would be important that you eat enough protein.

I am not an expert, but those are the only potential problems I can see.

Support, did someone say "support"...Evermind, you are amazing you have weathered this slump, this real stall with such grace, holding your head high even when nothing moved...even when you've not been able to exercise like you wanted after the accident. You have been a woman of composure and grace! We are all behind you. Even if we can't figure this out, we know you are consistent and a rock! You will not crumble, you will continue on, this is a way of life...You have reached out, been honest and opened up your heart....that deserves respect, and I would ask everyone to speak thoughtfully where people are really challeneged.
Thank you for sharing this very frustrating tough time. Keep us informed, we are all gonna grow and learn along side of you....

Re: Well, I'm getting really upset now

Kate, thanks for checking the numbers. I put in what I have been eating for the last couple of days only, since I re-started induction on Wed. to see if I could bust the stall. Before then, I was eating more veggies and also stuff like soy flour pancakes and cottage cheese, so my calories were higher.

It is too early for me to be in starvation mode. However, I am going back to all of my menus since October 15 and checking them one by one to see if I can see anything - calorically, fat-wise, veggie-wise, and likely food-allergy/staller-wise.

Jess, thanks so much for your kind words. I don't see myself as particularly graceful in handling things the last couple of months, but I'm never a good judge of myself!

              Hi, Evermind

As everyone is different in their tolerances, I can only relate my own experience, so I will.

For a long time, I was able to eat from many rungs, and still lose weight. As time went on, that changed. So much so, that even though I am in Maintenance, I am eating at Rung 1. I eat up to 50 net carbs to maintain my weight, but I have to make those carbs come mostly from salad veggies and other list veggies... no dairy, no nuts, no fruit. For a while, I was losing while eating these things, but then my body said NO! Not only can I not eat them when trying to lose... I can't eat them when I'm trying to maintain.

So, although it will take time and be tedious, I would eliminate the foods you mentioned and take it from there... if your losses start back up after they're stopped, you can start adding them back one at a time, to see which one is the culprit. Hopefully, you won't be like me, and find that all of them are. (Not pumpkin... I am still able to eat that everyday. I've heard of others who can't eat it, though... same with spaghetti squash).

Hang in there... I have no doubt that you will figure it out.

Re: Well, I'm getting really upset now

Evermind, from what I've been reading in trying to get myself where I want to be, I've read that dairy is VERY common a problem among a lot of people. I know you eat very close to vegetarian, so getting away from the dairy could pose you problems. However, lactose intolerance is a very big problem. Just as with wheat allergies, mostly you only hear about them when they make someone really really sick. From what I've read, a significant number of the population has problems digesting dairy, just as many of us have intolerance to wheat. The paleo diets say to never eat dairy or wheat.

I did NOT want to hear this when it was brought to my attention. But, I tried it and my body started losing weight and feeling good. I still don't want to fully accept it deep down. I've also read that flax, soy products, and even splenda are common stallers. BTW are you using powdered splenda? Powdered sweetners contains maltodextrin which is sugar. Switch to liquid splenda or liquid saccharine instead.

I know you exercise a LOT and you've got to feed the exercise. Without calculating in fitday your menu, I would guess that you may not be getting enough FUEL.

                  Hmmmm.

Well, if it turns out it's dairy, then I'm just going to have to live as a fat person. Can't and won't give it up. I've always eaten dairy, and although on Atkins I have to eat less, it's a staple for me. My ex is lactose intolerant, but I actually have the opposite problem - meat makes me sorta sick. I eat it infrequently.

I can get some liquid splenda, though.

Have you been sick and on anti-biotics? Maybe you have a yeast problem? You eat blue cheese and mushrooms. Could it be that? Just brainstorming here.

Re: Well, I'm getting really upset now

Ok - I'm going to join in here and my 1st thought was the dairy. HOWEVER - I'm like you in that I'd rather be heavy than give up my dairy stuff. So I modified it somewhat.

I stopped using Blu Cheese dressing - don't know why but everytime I have a salad with it I'm up a pound the next day. I have 3 oz of cream cheese per day since at the moment I am in love and in need of a protein shake - that and cream in coffee doesn't make me gain - but that dang dressing does it everytime!

Now if I have ranch I'm fine - so go figure. But I also make that Honey Mustard dip stuff from sugarfreeshelia's site and add a lil olive oil to it to make it into a salad dressing.

Do you have any soreness or tenderness in any of your muscles?

I'm feeling your pain over here!!!

I pretty much stopped losing around Halloween. I had added soy flour about 3 weeks prior. I haven't added anything since. I'm not a starchy veggie person, don't drink much (not at all on Atkins so far) and thus after berries and nuts and dairy, I'm not particularly interested in new foods.

I dropped berries sometime in November for 2 weeks - no change. (I only eat them a couple of times a week, if that). I dropped nuts for a week, but there was no change. I have stopped the soy flour - nothing.

So, I went back to induction - strictly. And what happened? I GAINED 3 lbs!

                              What the HECK?

I must say that I'm glad everyone is as mystified as me.
