  • Im having some problems

I have been on the atkins diet for 9 days now and followed all the rules except eating hot dogs 2 to 4 a day and only have trace amounts of ketosis and my weight started at 215 and goes down to 209 in the morning and back up to 215 at night any tips on helping get more ketosis going on or any advice??

    thanks for any help

    Sure.

A "Trace Amount" is exactly what you want. SEriously. It shows that you are properly hydrated AND in ketosis. Ketosis is like pregnancy - you're either in it, or not. No degrees -there's no such thing as "deep" or "light" Ketosis.

The difference between a.m. weight and p.m. weight is perfectly normal. During the day, fluid builds up in your body (particularly if you are eating that many salty hot dogs per day) and gets flushed out at night.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

    You're doing FINE!
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

I'd also cut out the hot dogs to make sure they're not causing you any problems...fillers, sodium etc can cause issues.

OK thank you. So i will stop eating hot dogs but i had one more question. Sometimes in the induction phase can it take more than 9 days before noticable fat loss and if so about how long can it take? Cause the only place i really can see a diffrence is my face it is not round anymore my cheeks are really slimming down.

Some will lose inches before the scale moves, did you measure at the start? If not, you probably could tell with your clothes and take your measurements today...

More water will help with the fluid retention.

Keep it up, you are doing great!!!

How much do you have to lose? How tall are you, how old? M/f? All these things will impact how quickly you lose weight. Have you read the book?

                Re: Im having some problems

Some people lose a bunch in the first week of induction and then nothing the second. Some people lose nothing the first week and a bunch the second.

We even have one long-time member who didn't lose an OUNCE during induction! Can you believe it? She later lost, I dunno, about 90 lbs I think.

I just went on induction again to jump start a loss after a stall, and I GAINED 6 lbs in the first week!

My point? If you are in ketosis, and you are eating a normal amount of calories, you'll lose. Trust me. It may seem like you aren't right now, and that is probably water retention due to the hot dogs. Try avoiding all processed meats for a few days and see what happens.

I have to lose probably about 30 lbs im 5'11" 31 years old. I actually work out at the gym 5 days a week one and a half to two hours a day but late october i broke my hand at work and could not work out so i put on some pounds so im doing atkins to help me slim down while i start getting back in the gym. And i did have the book but have not read it all but cant find it so i will go buy another one.

Hey Speed muscle, you are coming along, the trick with atkins is allowing it time to do it's work and start reading because this is a very specific plan that can't just be jumped on and then off once you loose the weight....if you do that, you'll gain it all right back, because it's not so much about weight it's about how our bodies handle carbs and sugars.
