  • Sigh.

I've been back on track for a little over two weeks now and have been doing really well. But tomorrow is my first day off work (except for weekends when my roommate is around). I will be home by myself and in the past that has meant major pig out. Days off used to be all about potato chips and pepperoni pizza and in anticipation of my day off tomorrow I have been really craving chips and pizza- total junk. I just really want it and have been thinking about it all day! I have been totally cheat free and I am posting this here in the hopes that being open about the urge to cheat will make me not cheat!

    Re: Sigh.

Make yourself a mock pizza to have tomorrow, throw some pepperoni and cheese in the oven for some "chips" I make my special pizza toppings by cooking up the inside of italian sausage hot and mild, sometimes sweet, and adding some tomatoes (not a whole lot) for sauce then adding italian seasonings every other topping i like on pizza, saute it all up and then add a little bit of cheese at the end.

If you don't like sausage, cook up some chicken or beaf and add pepperoni and do the rest.

You could also dedicate tomorrow to going through low-carb recipes and finding substitutes and making them, it will not only keep you occupied but you won't be off plan if you happen to munch while cooking. There are many low carb pizza recipes and chips recipes.

You can do this!! All it takes is some planning and psyching yourself out into thinking you are having a not-low carb food.

      Re: Sigh.

Failing to plan is planning to fail. How are you planning on overcomeing these urges? I would make sure you get yourself a water bottle and everytime you start craving drink some water and tell yourself to wait the craving out 10 minutes. If after 10 minutes you are still craving give yourself something yummy legal and fatty to eat and tell yourself you will wait out the craving 10 minutes. repeat until you aren't craving. Prolly will stop after the water the first time but you can definitely get through this. be sure to come to the board for help too. Have a phone handy to call a supportive friend. Get out and exercise.

        Re: Sigh.

How about having items around that you really like and can make up? There are lots of recipes in the recipe room, Steak, mock pizza etc? Yep, as it was mentioned, planning is key. Don't use this day off to ruin two weeks of feeling great!!!

Get yourself a plan for the day and for your foods, you'll thank yourself later!!!

Let us know how you did! You can do this!!

Old habits are hard to break! Since you are changing your food habits.. change your idle time habits. Hobbies? Cleaning? Errands? Cooking and preparing legal foods for the week when you are too busy? Shopping? Exercising? Movies? Walking? Riding a bike? Go to the park? Baby steps to making permanent changes! You can do it!!

            Re: Sigh.

I used to be like this! Now I look forward to a day off as "ME TIME" at the gym! I can't wait to have a workout that isn't rushed and that isn't on a time-clock. I love the fact that I can stay at the gym longer than an hour if I want to. I love that I can go back to the gym later in the day if I want to work out again!

Instead of looking forward to a binge, look forward to an awesome workout day!

Ok, well, don't cheat. Here's how to make sure you don't:

              1. When you get up in the morning, eat immediately. Eat something high in fat, like devilled eggs, cheese, (cheese omelette), etc, bacon and eggs, etc.

              2. Eat something high in fat every couple of hours after that. Just something small (again, devilled eggs come to mind, or string cheese, or pepperoni, or whatever)

              3. Make yourself or buy yourself something that is reminiscent of the foods you crave. Pork rinds. Deep fried kale, which smells and tastes like popcorn.

              4. Get some exercise.

              5. Remind yourself to just say no. No all day. Saturday is a different story. But for tomorrow, no, no, no.

You can do it. Suck it up and do it! We've all been there (sometimes quite frequently!) and we all know how hard it is. But here's the thing: You have to do it. The first time you do it you are creating a pattern, and each time you resist your discipline will be a little stronger. So this is IT. A MUST!

Ok, I am starting my day! I will stay strong, I will stay strong! I am going to start the couch to 5k running plan today (even though it is raining outside!), I am going to do some cooking and cleaning, and I might even go to a movie if I have to. I just have to get through today and I'll be fine. And I'm excited about working out more like Julirama suggested. Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how the day goes!

It's a little after noon and I have been run/walking (day one of couch to 5k!) and to the grocery store already. I also went and bought more vitamins for a little legal retail therapy! I stocked up on lots of legal food at the grocery store and stayed away from the illegal aisles! So far so good! Thanks!!

Sounds like you are getting through the day off with a lot of things that will put you ahead. Exercise changed your life today, it is something that has the potential to make the greatest impact on our well being! New food and grocheries, this helps us and it's like an arsenal, weapons to combat cravings with. I use green olives and shrimp as my biggest weapons and indulgences....You are fighting smart!

You are absolutely right, Outback Jess and the way you put it really makes me smile. It makes me feel even more like I am changing my life by doing this. Not only haven't I pigged out today I have done two things I normally wouldn't do on a day off- exercise and leave the house. It feels good to have a plan and to feel more confident because of it. The day is not over but I think I'm going to make it! Now it seems silly to me that I was as worried about it as I was!

There will be too many "idle" days in the future.. use them to your advantage to enjoy life and not holed up in the house eating bad foods - get out there! And speaking of practicing what I preach.. I'm about to get on my gazelle - See! You have inspired ME!
