  • Much, Much Harder the 2nd Time Around

I'm very frustrated. I've been on induction three weeks and have lost 8 pounds (7 in the first week & a half). I suppose in some circles, that is good, and I've been trying to convince myself that it IS good, but I have doubts in my mind such as "Well, I really was at my heaviest when I started, I was really only 170, so after three weeks of being good, I've only lost 3 lbs, etc., etc." Doubt, doubt, doubt.

My waist is fairly small, at least relative to the rest of me, and I've been reading that maybe my BMI is off because my waist should be larger and I'm just heavier muscled, but working on that theory, the scale isn't moving because I'm gaining muscle, but since I'm already "heavily muscled," that theory doesn't really make sense (probably like this paragraph). I don't really believe I am heavily muscled, it's just some rationale someone came up with for variances in BMI. Doubt, doubt, doubt.

It seems like last time (almost two years ago), the weight came off much faster. I think I lost 30 pounds in 4 months, but if I remember correctly, a big chunk came off in the first month which encouraged me to continue. I'm not encouraged here. Doubt, doubt, doubt.

I've been exercising fairly regularly for me (single mom), at least three times a week. My clothes aren't fitting any differently. Whassup wid dat? I'm very badly wanting popcorn with Milkduds at the movie tonite.

My forte is giving advice, cuz I love to sound like I know what I'm doing, but not today.

Relax...the weight will come off. You can expect to lose about 10% of the weight you want to lose on induction...You are WAAAAY ahead of that curve sweety.

Re: Much, Much Harder the 2nd Time Around

This is my third solid attempt at Atkins. No, the weight didn't come off as fast as the first time... but I have learned so much in my failed attempts. This truly is a change of eating.. not just until I get to goal - forever. FOREVER. With those changes I get the benefits of: Even moods, better TOM, steady energy, deep sleep, no fog head, AND I get weight loss. I would love to wake up next week and be at goal! Wouldn't we all! lol but it takes time. You have 22 pounds until goal. May feel like so much to you, but the closer you get to goal the slower it comes off - or so that's what I'm seeing happening. Hang in there, check your foods and make sure you are doing Atkins correctly, drink your water and exercise. Enjoy life and in the meantime... the weight will come off! Don't let your mind play games with you.. You know it works.. stick with it

You have 40lbs to lose, and you've lost 8. That means you've lost more than 25% of what you need to lose already, and that is GREAT!

It's going to be different than it was the last time, because you are different, your body is different, your circumstances are different. It's also possible that the last time you were amazed at your early losses because you didn't expect much, this time you are disappointed because you are expecting a lot.

Stick with it, the results will come. Maybe not as fast as the last time or in the same way, but they'll come.

You're doing fine. Focus on how you feel, eating the right foods and being in ketosis. Don't overthink this. Get into the routine of eating and working out, and let the weight come off and the inches come off the way they will.
          Start date: 7/29/2007

          Scale: SW:235 CW:193
          GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

          Mini goals:
          215 - met 9/10/07
          205 - met 10/17/07
          195 - met 2/20/08
          180

          I survived a two-month stall!

Stay strong you can do this! Don't forget that the scale LIES. It doesn't tell you how many inches you've lost and it doesn't always tell you how awesome you are doing!

You could also try posting some of your menus. Some people stall because they aren't eating enough fat!

Stick with it 7 lbs is a great loss and thats 7 lbs you don't have to carry around with you everywhere!

Chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a....I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....Not too much thinking! As you may have guessed (evermind), I'm a chronic overthinker. I'm going to slap my bf silly if he orders popcorn at the movie tonite! He eats popcorn, and I'm picking my nose--in front of everybody--as blatantly as I can. That'll learn him.

Thanks everyone. I love you, man.

Luckily, I think boogers are a low-carb food.

Just stick with Atkins--you know it works. Weight loss is not linear. The pounds will drop when they're good and ready. Meanwhile, enjoy the benefits of Atkins--increased energy, positive mood, control over foods, no cravings, no bloating, bigger clothes!

Something else to consider is moving to OWL. Adding in those extra veggie carbs on Rung 1 often jumpstarts weightloss in many people.
