Losing more slowly than you thought you would? Follow this checklist:

    1. Stick to the plain foods we're allowed in whatever stage you're in. Prepare the foods yourself. Fresh is best.

    2. Cut out any packaged foods. All of them. Even if they are "legal". Especially if you know they really aren't.

    3. Consider your metabolism. It's probably slow right now. Bring it up by vigorous cardio exercise, a minimum of 5 days a week for 4 weeks. And I mean vigorous. Build up to where you can sustain cardio for 20 solid minutes, minimum.

    4. Cut out any sweetened drinks. Water is it. It is the ONLY thing you drink, except for green tea, unsweetened. And 1 cup of coffee in the a.m. if you must.

    5. Eat MORE veggies. Seriously. Move up to the first rung of OWL if you haven't already.

    6. Take a realistic look at where you are. If you're in induction, and not losing a bunch, remember that your body is adjusting to the new menu and will drop the weight it's hanging onto when it feels like it's time. If you are past induction, or past the first 2 weeks, remember that slow but steady-ish is the best way to lose - it reduces the tendency to regain. Take your measurements. Measure every 2 weeks.

    7. Learn to be as patient with yourself as you are with others. If you are a parent, consider how patient you are with your kids when they are learning something new. Mimic that behavior and self-talk.

    We can do this.

    Good post, thanks.

    What I know:
    1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

Evermind, great post, good practical advice that can lead to good skills and good mental outlook. Atkins is not a quick fix it's long term changes with foods that work for our metabolism. The sooner we come to the reality that we need to go slow and truly change for a life time the better....What makes this or any other diet a fad diet is blowing through it, seeking quick weightloss. But we all know with low carb, once you go off the lower carbs you flip the switch and start storing the excess as fat instead of burning it as fuel. For those of us with the metabolic tendancy to store excess carbs as fat, this is truly our answer.

Thank you for this post. I'm one of those experiencing big time frustration right now.

Seeing that in print somehow makes it all make sense. I'm printing it out as a reminder for myself.

I know this WOE works...it's just moving a lot slower than I want it to now.

                    Thanks again!

I know, qbu. I had a two-month stall and then finally lost 2 whole pounds, now I'm paused again! I think this latest pause is just a section of my normal, non-stalled cycle, which seems to be about 9-10 days of losing, followed by 9-10 days of "pause", followed by 9-10 days of losing.

At least, that's what I tell myself.

But I know that I've done everything Atkins tells us to do, and that I'm feeling good, so I just counsel myself to be patient. My body took a long time to get this fat, and it's going to take it's own sweet time releasing the lard.....

I think its a great post. I'm noticing myself that the weight isn't melting off quite like the first time - but its been 7 years and that makes a difference in my metabolism. I also have to be honest and realize I work a seated job this time around and I'm not doing as much moving around as before - so you simply bump up the exercise and REALLY follow the approved foods list. =)

I also take my measurements every 2 weeks because on the weeks I notice I don't lose anything and want to be discouraged, I typically discover I've lost 2-3 inches. So good post!
