  • 8 months and 36 lbs

Short and sweet. I left atkins way of life after losing 36 pounds. I think I did pretty good the first couple of months, but you know how it goes, a french fry here, burger there...cake, cookies, blah, blah, blah.

I thought I could handle it on my own but I CANNOT! so here I am AGAIN.
I'm afraid to weigh myself, but I need to, that way I can have a way to measure my success.

Tonight I am going back to joining the gym (my workout clothes that were baggy are TIGHT.... anyway...lots of emotional stuff going on too, but I have to do this. I feel like I'm as wide as I am tall!

Thanks for the emails from those of you who noticed I disappeared for a while. I'm really hoping to keep on track and lost 145 lbs, but one step at a time. My goals are 2lbs a week. I am going to the Netherlands in 2009 so if I could lose 104 pounds by then...woohoooo. I guess last but not least...I just want to say .....
    HELP!!!

Ultimate Goal to LOSE 183 lbs

Re: 8 months and 36 lbs

i know how you feel. a few years ago i did atkins and lost 50 lbs in about 6 months, kept it off for about 6 months, and then slowly started gaining as i started eating more and more the way i knew i couldn't!

now, here i am, heavier than ever, but starting again. the scariest thing for me was getting on the scale - i hadn't weighed myself in almost a year and had about 30 extra pounds to show for it. the truth hurt - but it also got me off my butt and back on this plan and back to the gym.

don't be discouraged. it doesn't matter how much you weigh, all the matters is that you are going to do something to change it. once you start, you are going to feel better knowing you are making the change you need.

2 lbs a week is a very realistic goal. if you can stick to it, you will no doubt look terrific when you go on your trip!!

    good luck!!!

welcome back! I fell in the same 'trap' - thinking I could add 'just a bite' here, there until it was everywhere...so I'm back too. And what a goal to work for, a trip to the Netherlands!!!

I did the same thing you did. I left the plan before getting to goal, thinking I could wing it, and lo and behold after 2 years, put on more than 1/2 the weight that I lost. But I'm back at it, full steam ahead, not looking backwards. We are all here to help eachother get through the challenging times. Welcome Back!

Re: 8 months and 36 lbs

Welcome back Thumper! I, like you and others here, lost weight my first time around (70 pounds!) but gained it all back within a year because I left the plan and got WAY off track. I'm back now and ready to make it stick for life. Make sure you stop by the Century Club. It's for those of us with 100 or more pounds to lose. We have a daily 'roll call' thread where we check in with each other. Come join us. It's a great bunch of people. I look forward to seeing you around the board!
