Re: Good Morning! 1-23 Roll Call

    Good Humpday Morning, Fellow STACers

OWL... CCLL... What a process! One thing is for certain, it is always on ongoing process. When I reached goal, I was afraid that I would be bored, because I was "finished" with the process. Ha! Now that I am in Maintenance, I am still always fiddling with something.

I have been eating up to 50 net carbs, and have been doing fine. In fact, I am even 3 pounds below my goal weight now, and am going to wander on down to 120 pounds. Honestly, I don't need to eat more carbs than that, because I get most of my carbs from veggies, and 50 allows me plenty of those! I don't feel like my CCLM is low anymore... it is the kind of carbs that I eat, more than the number of carbs that I eat, that is the important factor for me. I could probably eat more than 50, if I continued to keep them mostly veggies. But, it's just not necessary, because I am eating plenty of those.

It's this quality versus quantity of carbs that, I believe, leads people to think that they have a low CCLL sometimes. That's why I encourage people to stay on Rung 1 for quite a while. On the weeks that you're not trying new veggies, I would up your carbs, in search of your CCLL. You don't have to stay there until you top out on the number of carbs that you can have, but I would definitely stay there long enough to build up the number of carbs you are eating. It is just not necessary, for most people, to stay at 20 carbs to lose weight. Veggies are safe, so it is easy to up your carb level there. Then, you have more carbs to spend on the other rungs, where foods are more apt to be trouble. If you already know a certain number of carbs you can tolerate, it will be easier to nail down the culprit if a problem arises while adding foods from the other rungs. I would also advise only adding one new food a week. If you add more than one in a single week, and you encounter a problem, how do you know which one caused the problem? Take your time on each rung... be very methodical, and you will learn how your body likes to eat. And be aware, that some foods that start out as being fine, can turn on you at some point. Hence, the reason that I no longer have dairy or nuts. I might try to introduce something from each of those rungs again in the future, but not too soon. While they both started out fine for me, I clearly have issues with both of them now.

I also want to take this opportunity to urge all of you to take some photos of yourself now, and periodically during your journey. I know that is an unappealing thought for many, but you don't have to post them... they are just for you. My guess is, that you will be proud to post them in time, to show how far you have come. I wish that I had more photos of myself when I was heavier.

So, in the spirit of the photo suggestion, I am going to post the first siggie pic I used on this board last year. I still had it in photobucket, and decided to let y'all see what I mean about what a boost it can give you. This photo was taken on 4/16/07, at a weight of 173 pounds. I now wish I would have taken one at my restart on 2/25/07 at a weight of 187 pounds. Here goes...

See?! So, people! Go take your pics... you'll be glad you did.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to mitzimarie again.

Mitzi, loved what you had to say!

Nuts and dairy turned on me too. I no longer eat either of them on a regular basis, and if I do, even at 20 net carbs a day, I'll stall or gain weight. Plus, they make me crazy with cravings. Just not worth it.

The only other vice that I'm still holding onto is the coffee. I no longer have cream or sweetner in it. I drink it black, but I suck down a minimum of 24 ounces a day. That's 3 carbs right there. PLUS, I get the insulin issues from it too. And, the hunger. I remember years ago, weight watchers told us to limit coffee and tea because the caffeine makes you hungry. And, we can't fool our bodies (even if we can try to fool our minds) with decaf. It still has a significant amount of caffeine in it. I've got to get back off the juice. I'm sure my body will initially revolt with one **** of a headache, but then it will be so happy once I'm detoxed again.

          Good Morning all,
After reading all this about OWL & CCL, I realize how important it is to find out what your CCL actually is. The first time I was on Atkins, I stayed in Induction for 5 months, and I never really did find out what my CCL was. I ventured out on my own version for the next 2 years, and hence I gained back more than half of my weight loss. I am going to do it right this time. I'm already in OWL after the 2 weeks of induction, and am planning to do 2 weeks on each rung, and following through until I find my CCL. My DANDR book is always visible to me for review. Thx everyone for all your wonderful suggestions.

            G'morning fellow STAC'ers!

Jess and Mitzi hit it on the head today. It is one of the best and worst parts of the Atkins woe that Induction is so simplet to follow. That was one of the major factors for me following the plan to begin with, but then I got scared to go to OWL. I think many people start to believe that since they lost such a large amount on Induction-level carbs, they won't lose nearly as much as they climb the rungs. But that's how we end up falling off the wagon :/. The thought that helps me get over the fear is that you can always dial it back....if the loss completely stops I can take the carb level/rung down. But if it doesn't, I am getting what Dr Atkins promised at the beginning of DANDR...a feast of fresh, varied, wonderful food to satisfy my body and my palatte.

On a separate note, wish me luck on my written driver's license test today! It's that time...I will no longer be a Louisiana resident

              Happy Hump Day STAC'ers,

The Book is by my bed and should be in my hands often. I will stick in on my bed side table and try to open in every day.

Today is my first day back to induction again. Wish me luck! I will succeed!

              Peace!

                Morning all!

I ran 4 miles yesterday and followed it up with my yoga class - was really great and made me feel STRONG!

Weighed in at 112.5 - so down a .5 lb -I'll take it! This weekend, my goal is to run 5 miles in an hour - I can totally do it!

Hubby is meeting with a business broker to talk about selling the liquor store. I think it's exciting and a little scary. It's been a curse and a blessing for years. We'll see what happens!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!!

Mitzi you're exactly right! it's the types of carbs that matter, and veggies are the best types! I also do quite well having a good portion of mine coming from fruit too. I know for a fact that some days i 'waste' my carbs on less nutritional, or higher calorie higher carb, lower fibre foods...and though i stay within my ccll it does me no favours...dairy is a big issue for me....as are nuts..the two biggest culprits. If i tried to fill my days with net 70g's of good veggie and low GI fruit carbs i probably couldn't even do it. i really need more veggies!

This is exactly can mess us up! it seems so easy at the time to stay in induction...but it's really not practical for a lifetime of eating, you need to know your CCLM...I think what happened to you ...happens to many here, and they figure 'oh well it didn't work' and turn away from Atkins, good for you for coming back and doing your full OWL!

Prya..good luck with the driving test! I know the stress, i'm 38 and only did mine 3 1/2 years ago!

So I can take a try at finding my CCL already!? I'm at rung 1, I hadn't thought about it before but that sounds like a good idea. Each week, eating the same kinds of food, maybe add one new one, add more carbs till I find my CCL, or something kind of close to my CCL since I don't want to stop losing yet. Its important to know if its low, or if its high, there's no reason not to go ahead and eat more veggies if I can so that way I never get bored. I just stared my 4th month and I've spent too much time in induction. This is a WOL, induction feels too much like a diet.

Sorry thinking out loud. I think I'll up my carbs from 20 to 25 next week. I don't have as much energy as I did when I first began this WOL, maybe this will be the difference. Maybe my body hasn't been telling me I don't eat enough or work out too much, its telling me it wants some more veggies.

                    This place is great.

Yes, indeed! By all means, start adding more veggies. Just make sure to up the carb number, on the weeks that you don't add a new food. If you add a new food and up the carb number during the same week, you won't know whether it's the new food, or the increased number of carbs, that's screwing with you.

I have lost 65 pounds since my re-start on 2/25/07, and the overwhelming majority of those pounds were lost in OWL, not Induction. I know it can be intimidating, but take the plunge! Veggies are soooo good for you, and I am positive that they are have been pivotal in my success this time around. I did not open my mind to them the first time... got most of my carbs from the other rungs (without progressing through them properly), and couldn't get below 155 pounds eating that way. I lost focus, and strayed from plan altogether.

Think about it, everyone... there really is no need to stay at or below 20 carbs daily after Induction, as long as you choose wisely.

                        Good luck!

Ok - I'm better..... I think it was those dang noodles which is ok - it was my last package and I just think I'll stay away from them.

I went to my pilates class and we did it will a ball!! Dang my legs are in pain - in a good way but still

My carbs per day are 30-40 max and I stay on the lower end. I'm hoping to increase it as I build more muscle and start the dang cardio I was planning but haven't done yet (yep that one is on me I just don't like to go to the basement/dungeon)...

Sun is out - I'm feeling pretty good.... my husband is building a new picnic table.....and I get the whole day traveling by myself tomorrow!! WOOHOO... kids have been bugging me the past couple of days. Granted all I am doing is getting more goats - but at least it will be a fun trip and I can listen to a book all the way down and back!

Got salad stuff so I feel better about dinner tonight - making flank steak. And the grocery was giving away some "fast food" type things - so the kids can have some mac & cheese along with the steak which is what I picked out that I knew they would eat

Gotta go - continue having a great day everyone!!!
