  • A bit of a rung question

To stay on Induction or go to OWL? A history:

I restarted the Atkins woe Saturday, Jan 12 and began working out 5-6 days a week that week also. I believe that eating at my work commissary I was taking in some hidden sugars (grr), so I began a "home-cooked" induction Saturday, Jan 19. On Monday Jan 21 I was 1 lb up from my starting weight (/cry). Today I am again at my starting weight.

Previously on Induction I lost about 6 lbs, but with no exercise and only counting carbs and making sure I got 3 cups of veggies in a day. This time I've got a lot of exercise on my side, and I'm tracking my food much more closely.

I'm thinking of getting a pack of ketostix just to make sure I haven't unconsciously messed myself up, though I have not had anything not cooked by me since Monday (pizza toppings helping my friend move).

Normally I would just go on to OWL tomorrow, since it is just 5 more carbs of veggies (which I love). However, I haven't lost anything on Induction so far, which is disturbing to me. So my question is this....stay on Induction 1 more week, which makes 2 weeks "home cooked" Induction, or move onto OWL and hope that I start losing?

Thanks for any advice, and sorry for such a long post!

Induction is at least 2 weeks long. So you do wanna make sure its a nice clean induction you have been having. As far as the weight loss goes, are you drinking enough water? Are you eating enough fat? You could also try posting a couple of menus see if there is anything that needs to be tweaked.

Don't be dismayed though! The first time I did atkins I actually gained a pound! I didn't start loosing any real weight until the 3rd week. I lost inches though which was nice. The Tape Measure will always be your best friend. Tape Measure and Water

Thank you for your response Spazzy.

I have been drinking a minimum of 3 liters of water a day for the last couple of weeks, so that shouldn't be the issue, and have been using FitDay to track my food. So far I've been able to maintain about 70% fat/5% carbs/25% protein, most days eating around 1600 calories.

Wow, that's an amazing willpower to keep going when you gained the first time around! I checked my measurements Monday and there was no change, but hopefully this Monday I'll see some progress I think I will stay on Induction another week, so that I know that I've had 2 clean weeks and take stock then.

I think that if you want to do another week of induction it si not going to hurt anything but I think you should remember that when you start an exercise program your body will retain water to repair the muscles youare building...do not fret!! Keep on doing what you are doing...the home cooked meals are a good thing.... and you will be rewarded soon.

Re: A bit of a rung question

You can do another week of induction if you want, but I'd go ahead and start OWL. Maybe up your fats a bit, to 80% for a few days, in addition to the extra veggies.

Who knows what's going on? I'd say, trust your body, trust the woe, and just proceed as you normally would and let it come off as it wants to.
          Start date: 7/29/2007

          Scale: SW:235 CW:193
          GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

          Mini goals:

          195 - met 2/20/08
          180

          I survived a two-month stall!

Yeah I was very put out but the thing that kept me going was not how much i weighed but how I FELT. I had more energy, I was sleeping better, and I was doing things for myself that I wasn't doing before such as working out, drinking water, EATING VEGGIES! I felt that even if I didn't lose a single pound that I didn't care because I just felt so much better about myself! I think it was that attitude that allowed the pounds to start coming off in that 3rd week. Then I loved atkins even more! This WOE really does work. I feel the same way now, even if I don't lose another pound I just FEEL so much better.

Ok enough ranting - sorry bout that
