I read an article recently that said you only have 1 golden chance with Atkins. The second time is either much harder or impossible to accomplish the same results as the first time. Has anyone found this to be true?
I can say that the second time on Atkins was really hard... I didn't lose as fast as the first time around.
Not impossible though
My experience is the exact opposite... I have done much, much better this time around, and it wasn't harder, or take any longer. I guess it is different, for different people.
I was much more strict this time around. The first time, I didn't try new veggies or progress up the rungs properly. This time, I followed the book to the letter, and embraced veggies. The overwhelming majority of my carbs come from veggies... even it Maintenance. I was screwing around with too many upper rung foods, and only eating lettuce for veggies, the first time around.
The second time around for me seems to be going easier. The first time after 2 week induction I actually gained a pound. I'm almost done with the 2 weeks this time and I've already lost 10 pounds and 4.5 inches! I know I'm not supposed to weight yet but I couldn't help it
F 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!
1st pic Pre restarting atkins @ 217 lbs. 2nd pic 20 lbs lighter @ 197 lbs! on 3/1/08 :oha:
this is my millionth time and I finally got it through my thick head. Yes, the loss is a little slower at the onset, but really, I'm 4 lbs away from goal and it really didn't take long at all. I am surprised actually how easy it was this time.
This is my second time around, and while I lost both times, I was actually more successful the second time. Probably because I decided to really give it a chance this time and do it the way Dr. Atkins said to do it, not by my own rules.
It hasn't taken me all that long to lose it either, in the big scheme of things.

I had never heard that theory before. Glad I hadn't or I might have been discouraged to try again.
I kinda think this first week of induction was easier than the last first week I had. I am working out like crazy, (which I didn't do before.) So, I can't help but think my results are going to be a lot better.
the first time i did low carb (not atkins at that time) i used it as a 6 week fix, lost 10 kg, thought that was quite good and went back to my old eating habits LOL.
a year later all the weight was back and i finally realized that it just doesnt work like this.
i think a lot of us need that kinda reality check to understand how its supposed to be done.
its almost 1 year for me now, first general low carbing, now atkins and i wont stray.
this time i want to make it to goal and not gain it all back!
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P
This is my second time on atkins and it's much easier this time, I'm about 10 days in, my induction loss is going to be about 10% of my goal it looks like, so right on track there.
Because of what I know, and what I learned last time, it's much easier now.

The first time I did Atkins my body did respond better than all other times. I am talking about the start of the diet, and how fast those numbers dropped. But, I am happy with .5 a day not 1.5 lbs a day which was my first time (I KNOW VERY HIGH DROP NUMBERS)
Now, on time 5? 6? well anyhow been on it a few times. I have reached ketosis each time and my body in general is highly responsive once I stop sugars.
I say any effort to make yourself non-obese/overweight or just plan have a better self esteem is worth the diet again even if it is not faster.
bottom line, each of us is made to burn at our own rate, I see many second timers in size 6 jeans from a XXL.
