I'm stressed and anxious about some upcoming surgery, I'm waiting on a date for it right now. I know when I wake up from the anesthesia they always bring in gingerale and crackers or whatnot. I want to be prepared, I know I'll drink water... what should I pack for a snack after?

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
Hope the surgery goes well. I think the crackers and drink is to make sure you are not sick to your stomach and you may not feel like eating at all. Maybe take some low carb tortillas, cut them into pizza slices and put them in the oven until crisp? You can brush with a little oil and sprinkle salt on them - like a cracker! Diet sprite? (something clear) Make sure and have some easy prep foods for once you get home. Even bake some of those breakfast casseroles ahead of time just so you have osmething to eat to gain strength until you can fix more elaborate meals? Just some thoughts.

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
Not sure about snackage, its really gonna be based on what your stomach can handle. Keep it light.
Instead of diet sprite I would suggest Diet Rite because its sweetened with splenda and is atkins approved.
Good luck with your surgery! Dont let them take any body parts they aren't supposed to!F 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
I had surgery in August, and they didn't offer me anything carby afterwards.
You'll be fine. Tell them in advance.

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
i am going to get slammed for saying this, but if you are nauseated and need to eat something and crackers is what they have...EAT THEM. one cracker is not going to mess you up but a post-anesthesia headache or nausea will. i have first hand knowledge of this!!!HW223/CW150?/GW135

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
I had surgery in December and I asked for diet sprite...I believe. I didn't eat a cracker or anything because I'm allergic to that stuff. But if you have to, you have to. Take care of your body and then worry about Atkins. Packing low-carb chips or crackers is a good idea.

Re: Upcoming surgery, worried about eating after
Thanks everyone
My husband said last night that I'll eat/drink what I need to, he remembers that I was super sick to my stomach after my last surgery... so we'll see what happens. I'm going to try not to worry about it, he's going to bring me a diet soda and some things in a bag - we'll see what I feel like when I wake up I guess.
I hadn't even thought about coming home and having meals here. I'll have to make sure I make up some food and have it in the fridge before hand, thanks for that reminder!Karen - SAHM to C&C
