  • Haven't eaten for 5 days, where do I start?

    Hi, yeah the headline is kind of scary, I know.

    The story in short is, My fiance and I were together 6 years and some, and split up on saturday after our anniversary dinner. Niiice,

    So my life is upside down, my stomach wont do anything! Its not growling or hurting, notta. The very smell of food makes me literally gag and almost throw up, which there would be nothing but you know what im saying.
    I know that it's not healthy and I know that I need to eat something but every time I try to force myself, I cant get it, I cant even start to chew it. Its frustrating.
    I know my nerves are shot and my life, isnt the life i'm used to. Along with not knowing what else to do, where to begin my life again - now I cant eat. And i'm not trying to starve myself!!! I just dont know what I should try to eat that wouldn't be so tough to get down in the beginning.

    Should I start out with something like oatmeal? and then go back into my atkins WOE or should I start out with something atkins-friendly? Of course it would be best to stick to atkins, but I just need something to get the ball rolling again.

    Its thursday afternoon around 1:15pm now and the last time I had anything other than water was saturday at about 6:30

    I'd try some chicken broth. That's what I always had to settle my stomach when I couldn't eat.

      1) This event has triggered a dangerous eating disorder. YOU NEED TO EAT.... FORCE yourself to eat even a little if you have to but your going to hurt yourself and possibly end up in the hospital if you keep doing that. I'm not gonna sugar coat it because you know as well as I do this is not good. 5 days no food ... you realize your 2 days from starvation?

      2) I am very sorry to hear this as I know exactly how lost and empty you can feel when you lose a loved one by their choice, your own or death.

      3) you could try putting your food in a food processor to mush it up and make it tasty. Might make it easier. I know they say not to juice your veggies but if you HAVE to to get the nutrients in your system then do it. You can always take a fiber supplement to counter what the liquified veggies won't give ya. Chicken and steak can be good liquified with veggies as well. I know I have tried it and not for ATKINS... it was way back when i was experimenting on my food lol. Its petty tasty if you use the right combo.

        That's a huge event, start with chicken broth and slowly.

        Getting back to atkins may be something you have to work up to. I may be lambasted here for saying this, but you may need to slowly work yourself to a BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast)

        Once you're eating again, then you can switch back to induction

          I would say your first issue is drinking water. Please tell me you've been keeping yourself hydrated?

          Next, is there anything that sounds palatable? Eat!!! PLEASE!!! Ignoring food because you're upset is giving it emotional power. FOOD IS FUEL. You must think of food as something to fuel your body.

          I would not recommend the BRAT diet. What good will that do you? Eat Atkins foods, you're in this for life.

            Oh honey I'm sorry for whats happened. It can be vey traumatic when you lose a loved one like that.

            I already know that you know you need to eat. and drink water. Lots and lots of water. May I also suggest therapy? If its been 5 days since you have had anything and you are completely numb talking with someone - a real person - may help. Do you have any close friends or family who can help you? Maybe shove some food down your throat for you?

            Please try to find the help that you need. We are here to support you but only you can control what goes in your mouth

              I hope that you feel better. I would stay hydrated above everything. Do not worry about Atkins if your mentally not feeling good. A diet can wait, I think you need to talk to someone and vent your feelings offline as well.

                I'm so sorry that happened to you sweetie, six years is a long time. I understand about not wanting to eat after that, but you've got to get to something in you. Start small, chicken broth is a great recommendation, as is eggs. Maybe just a hard-boiled egg, or scrambled eggs, a slice of ham to go with it.

                They say the best revenge is looking good.... don't let this ruin all you've worked for so far, stay close here, stay with this WOE, and let him eat his heart out. We'll be here to help.

                  BIG 's! I am soo very sorry.. but please listen to everyone and eat. If you are able to drink water & smell of food is making you gag then drink the broth - that should get your hunger senses back in gear to allow you to start eating little bits of food... Make sure to start with the soft stuff (eggs, etc).

                  PLease keep us posted on how you are doing! We ARE here for you!

                      I am so sorry you are going through this right now. We are all here to support you, don't forget that!

                      I hope you have been drinking water at least. I know what it is like to have nothing at all sound good to you but you do need to force yourself. I think have anything at all that sounds good to you even if it is not on plan because this is a desperate time and you need to eat something, anything. I think it would be way better to stay on plan though. First of all, since you have been doing this for awhile if you suddenly have carbs it might make you feel sick and that's not at all what you need. Secondly, it's going to make you feel amazing to know that you got through this awful time and were strong staying on your eating plan.

                      If you aren't eating you might not be taking care of other necessary things either, I hope you are but if you are not then make sure to shower or soak in a bath. Also- get up and get out. I know the temptation is to sit and do nothing. It would be for me anyway. Try to go for a walk or to the gym (once you are eating!)- do something at all to get yourself active. It is amazing how good it can feel to just change your surroundings for a little while.

                        Thank you so much everyone for your comments, the hugs are GREATLY appreciated!

                        It is a rough time and i'm doing all that I can to keep my head above the water, so to speak. I like to think i'm making it, but then again I do have those down times where I do nothing but cry. But you gotta keep on, keeping on i guess!

                        I have been drinking alot of water and staying hydrated. But I have been noticing these other things, like i have this killing urge to drink tons and tons of water, and work out like a mad woman - which could be a good thing i guess but since I have nothing in me i get really dizzy and lightheaded. Like the other night, i loaded up my mp3 player with all those sad but motivational songs and i *RAN* a mile and a 1/2. i havent done that since high school, and then after than i walked another 2 miles and came home and did sit ups until i about passed out! its just got to stop before i hurt myself.

                        I tried some chicken broth this morning because when i woke up my stomach was actually growing for the first time, and it seemed to go ok. didnt give me any urges to eat anything else, but it was satisfying. I know this isnt healthy to be having this happen so please no-one think that i am purposely trying to starve myself! i was very nervous to post anything, knowing that someone would think that, but i needed the advice that you all gave me and i thank you so so much. Although I am trying to lose weight still and am working on it, I know losing 17lbs since saturday isnt right and is hurting me.

                        Once again, thanks everyone for all your help and I will keep this thread updated so you all know that my appetite is back, if that happens.

                          I'm glad the chicken broth worked for you! Try adding some celery and carrots to it, maybe some chicken. Boil it and make a soup. Anything to give yourself some vital nutrients.

                            17 lbs in 6 days? That for sure is not healthy. I think YES looking good is great revenge. But, killing yourself in the process is not smart.

                              when my ex left.. I lost 27 pounds in 21 days... and I only weighed 125 to being with...

                              soon I picked myself up... that was a LONG time ago....

                              you will survive... and be a better stronger person for the experience....

                              and like they've all said... you DO have to eat at some point... even if it means you have to make yourself do it..... take a vitamin.... scramble an egg...
