  • my scale=my counselor

I have been weighing in once a week, which I am finding is not enough for me. I need to hold myself more accountable. I am not a slave to my scale, but I am treating it like my counselor...............you know other people pay big bucks to have a diet counselor tell them whats right and whats wrong in their way of eating. I was finding after weigh in day (Wed) that I would get a little slack and let bites of this in and bites of that in.......................so I am now going to weigh in on W,F Su. I have my mind set that I will not get upset about numbers...........I think by doing this I will stay true to the Atkins plan.

My scale is 24 years old.................now you really know I am not anal about the scale. I have to set in on 7 lbs (instead of zero) to be correct with the doctors office. I step on it three times and as long as it comes up the same number it is good enough for me. Drives my family nuts....................................but like so many people say on this board it is NOT about numbers it is the way you feel.

Who needs a scale for inspiration when we have so many human inspirations on this board? I am not going to name names in fear I forget someone........just know I appreciate your pictures and your words of advice/wisdom!

    Re: my scale=my counselor

I am not weighing myself nearly as much this time around. The last time I did this... I became so obsessed with it. I would weigh everytime I went to the bathroom. I swear it was a compulsion of mine. What I have found is that my weight fluctuates and is isn't always a good indicator of how I am really progressing. I prefer to measure my success in how my clothes fit. I guess the only reason I weigh myself now is so that I can put an accurate weight in the machines at the gym that I workout on. A lot of people do weigh everyday. It holds them accountable and keeps them on track. I would just as soon throw my scales in the garbage and never look at them again!

You are doing a great job! Keep it up and you will be at goal before ya know it!

Once a week is better than 2-3x a week. You should weigh on the same day and under the same circumstance. While it's hard not to weight all the time, once a week gives you a better indicator of where you are at. Just my opinion. I used to weight all the time, and it drove me (and more so my wife) nuts.

      What I know:
      1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

I used to weigh once and a day and it was BAD for me. Then numbers influenced me way too much. Now the thing I go crazy for and sometimes do every time I pee (which is a lot when you are drinking so much water) is those ketostiks. I am trying to tell myself if I didn't eat anything bad, I am not going to be out of ketosis 2 hours after I just checked. I am getting better, but it is hard. I had my husband hide the scale until the end of February which is the end of the six week exercise challenge I am doing, and then I think I might try weighing once a week, on the same day, same time, like Blue said. You are just killing yourself if you do it through out the day. I think it is best to get up, pee, perhaps strip, then check it. Then, if it is saturday morning (which is when I plan on doing it), you can go lay back down happily for a little while. lol

It sounds like you are figuring out what works for you. That is great. It is all about what works for each individual person.

Love all your thoughts on it. I am not obsessed with the number, I just need a way to stay true to myself and the Atkins way.....................

I will procrastinate getting on the scale, live in denial, so now I am forcing myself to get on, to be accountable............I do understand the ups and downs (pound wise) of this way of eating......................twice now I have felt the "swoosh"........thats what I truely go by!

              Re: my scale=my counselor

Until this past month, I would weigh 2 and 3 times a day. Just out of curiosity. I didn't get upset over minor changes, and I always only counted the lowest weight. Nowadays I find that I weigh in the morning only, and about 1/3 of the time I even forget to do that.

I see no problem with what you are doing at all. Each of us has our own ways to establish habits that help us with our new way of relating to food and to our bodies.
              Start date: 7/29/2007

              Scale: SW:235 CW:193
              GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

              Mini goals:
              215 - met 9/10/07
              205 - met 10/17/07
              195 - met 2/20/08
              180

              I survived a two-month stall!

I hope to one day be one of those persons who can get on the scale and not let the fluctuations bother them. I just know how I am. Like everyone says, you need to do what is best for you.

                  Re: my scale=my counselor

Because of my sleep schedule I feel I am only able to get an accurate weigh on my days off. This is because I get to sleep the entire night. On the nights when I work I maybe get 4 or 5 hours of sleep during the day and then take a 2-3 hour nap at night.

So I maybe weigh myself once a week which works for me. Mondays are generally my weigh and measure days. I tell you the tape measure is a much better friend to me. Even when the scale doesn't move the tape measurer does so it pleases me

                    Re: my scale=my counselor

The scale can be bad. I took my scale and put in in the hall closet.

Just today did I change my siggy from goal weights to just dates. I figure that it might take me one month to lose 10 lbs and then another month could be only 5 and then another month could be 15. Regardless, I am now choosing to weigh myself 2x a month, the 15th and the last day of the month. Whatever my weight is, I will document it on that date.

As for reaching goal weights, I don't want to upset myself when it takes me to long to hit a specific weight. This way, I am adding a new weight to my siggy every 15 days!

To each there own, this is just what I chose to do...
