  • Help!!!

I did really well on Atkins for awhile. Then I had to move and had no internet so I couldn't be on the board. Well it went down hill. It took me forever to lose 10 more lbs. Then my sister moved in. She has more to loose than me but isn't trying and puts down everything I do to loose weight. She walks and thats it. I don't walk, I SHOP!!! Its walking with a view. The major problem is she brings foods like chocolate and rolls and the dreaded cerial into the house!!! I tried cooking huge low carb meals. I made a huge pot of spaggetti sauce with more meat to eat like chili and she cooked pasta to go with hers and the kids. My oldest daughter is 10, 5'3 and weighs 170 lbs. I want her to eat healthy too whether she has fruit or not isn't the issue. Chocolate, white flour and sugar are not things she NEEDS. Well, today I took my first dose of colon cleanser EVER and ate steak and broccoli with cheese. I know it isn't even lunch yet, but everyday I say I'll start then I end up cheating so I had to beat myself to it today and get on it already! I started at 230lbs, lost 5 or 10lbs on the soup diet, started atkins got down to 180 now I'm at 193. My new goal is 175. I want to be at 165 but I can worry about that later.

Luckily my sister moving in and paying rent allows me to have internet! When I got into my over flowing email, someone from the board had sent an email asking how it was going. Which was Perfect. I have my sister messing me up, so I gotta come back and get the good kind of peer pressure to offset it!!!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
    2nd mini goal: 140!
    3rd mini goal:135!
    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

    Re: Help!!!

That really has to be hard for you. I'm sorry you are bombarded with the carby things on a daily basis. Do yall share in the cooking of meals? Perhaps sitting your sister down and explaining just how important doing Atkins is to you may help her see the light? Maybe she is jealous and doesn't want you to lose weight? Maybe she's emotionally eating? Either way, it is your house and even though she's helping with the rent she should respect your wishes of keeping her foods separate or eating them when you are not around. That's my feelings. But I do think yall really need to talk and work this out. You both could do it together. And you are right, setting the example for our children is very important!

      Re: Help!!!

Well, she only cooks for herself mostly except for desserts which she shares. I'll talk to her about the chocolate and goodies she gets for the kids now that the holidays are OVER. She is trying to keep the kids out of her food, so we'll see. I bought diet drinks for Gabby who has been getting into her soda. Today I really want a fish fillet batter and all!!! I want lots of things around here. I just have to keep telling myself I want my ex to see me thinner MORE!!! So far I keep telling myself doing a colon cleanse is harsh enough I should be able to eat anything and not gain which is not good.

Lol this is awesome motivation! At least it is IMO

it's hard when everyone else around you is eating whatever carbage they want but stick with it! Get into the habit of saying no and you should find that it gets easier and easier until pretty soon you don't even need to say it, it just doesn't happen.

I think another good motivator would be to buy some hot little outfits that your skinnier healthier self can strut around in and tell your sister her and her desserts can enjoy their lives together.

Okay - I am going to take a different and more unpopular stance on this (sorry in advance). Since your sister pays rent she is entitled to bring in the foods she wants and eat them as well ~ whether in front of you or not. ((Though I agree that she can keep then in a different cupboard away from your foods ~ similar to what alot of people doing when having roomies)).

Why she is not interested in losing weight only she can answer that. Why we all chose to be heavy for so long before we chose to change our lives for the better - only we can answer that.

In my house - I am the only one overweight and thus needing this lifestyle. I have carb temptations all around me ~ yet I have to remind myself why I am doing this and learn to resist the temptations. I actually cook things for my family that I cannot eat - pasta, fresh bread, potatoes, etc... I am the one with the intolerances to particular foods not my hubby or kids so I am not going to deprive them of things they love just because I can't have them.

In saying all this - if you chose not to have your children eating certain things - that is your right as a mother. We want the best for our kids & you DO need to put your foot down with your sister as to what she can feed them.

There are things that YOU can do to help - when cooking speg. sauce - find a healthy alternative to the noodles (there are recipes out there)... Dessert - again plenty of really, really good recipes available to help curb that sweet tooth. (I know for a fact the heavy cream, unsweetened cocoa & cinnamon) helped me during TOM.

You also might find that when you are cooking & eating these healthier alternatives that your sister might try them and like them as well... and ulimately the types of foods that stall our success.

Good luck - you can do this.. Also - regarding the colon cleanse thing -- I too use them as I have always had problems going... HOWEVER, it is not a license to eat whatever you want... it is to help "cleanse" you & hopefully make you more regular. They are not something you should rely on (just like laxatives) it will cause you other problems in the long run... So please use them sparingly.

              Re: Help!!!

I cheated, she made cookies. I agree that she can make and eat whatever she wants, its her home too. I have been shopping for protein shakes that come in chocolate flavor and very low carb, like 3g per serving. Saddly the one I'm looking at doesn't taste that good but is the best for you. I figure if I have a ready form of chololate flavored something, there will HOPE for me. I try to avoid the slimfast drink don't eat thing, but I am tempted to give 2 shakes and supper a try. Sometimes its just easier for me to cook for everyone else and think of my food as the shake. I still have to have real food too, but I have to try something to get back on track. Right now, my willpower stinks. I do not want to be stopped up and having to cleanse so fiber will be consumed, green beans are my friend. In the past I've done slimfast, the Atkins fat fast, atkins. I'm thinking about the protein sparing modified fast, with a real atkins meal when I have to have something real to chew on. The scary thing is the difference in how fat is veiwed by Atkins and PSMF. Atkins says, fat preserves muscle, protein becomes carbs, PSMF says protein preserves muscle. I have over 50lbs to loose, so PSMF isn't totally stupid to do, however it certainly can't be the whole of my weightloss and it has no maintance plan. There is just something really attractive about not thinking about what I'm gonna eat. Once I actually stay on Atkins for a week, I don't think about food all the time anyway. But right now I have all the craveings of a carb junky.

                Re: Help!!!

                Hi Rita:

sorry you were tempted Stay away from the protein shakes -- those are really not good, especially while on induction. Alot of those that are successful with Atkins pre pack everything. Actually I have been doing this for a long time as I find it difficult to cook during the week. On Sundays for example I will prepare all the weeks meals and just prepackage them for everyone. You need to eat real food ~ not the shakes. Cook the meat for everyone (plus whatever sides you are giving them) and make yourself a salad and healthy wonderful veggies. In the sceme of things you aren't giving anything up - other than the types of foods your body is intollerant of. There are solutions to potatoes - yummy recipes that substitute cauli for the potatoes that alot of people on the board swear buy. There are tons of legal deserts that will get your thru the chocolate craving. You just need to get out there and find them. You can't mix different "diets" together - and more imporatantly you have to remember that Atkins is a lifestyle - not a diet. There are soo many success stories on this board - might help you get inspired. Remember you are doing this for yourself and your kids ~ you want to be healthy to watch them grow to all their potential as well as to become a role model on the healthier living aspect... BUT YOU HAVE TO WANT THIS! Everyday just like the "little train" you need to tell yourself --- I think I can, I think I can until you are able to tell yourself I KNOW I can. -- Remember you ARE worth it!!!

The main thing is you do need to think ahead of time about what you are going to eat - so you need to plan ahead.. by making healthy meals, snacks & desserts when needed. Search this forum for ideas - there are plenty of them If you don't have Linda's Low Carb Recipe website - let me know and I will link it to you.

                  Re: Help!!!

I live in a house surrounded by carbs! My 17 year old daughter loves to bake. She is always in the kitchen baking something for her boyfriend. There is a pile a cupcakes and a cake sitting on the stove currently. In the kitchen cabinet you will find her goldfish and her cookies and other kinds of things that I can't eat. I think miraculously I have reached a point where those things are no longer even tempting to me. I would much rather have a bowl of broccoli and cheese than a cookie. Hang in there and you will reach that point where the temptations become less and the willpower becomes more.
